This is my new health phrase of 2024 ✨

Finding your happy weight can mean a number of things —

❤️ Learning how to be confident in the weight that you are.
❤️ Losing some weight to feel most like your happiest and healthiest self (emotionally and mentally too!).
❤️ Accepting a little extra weight on your body because it allows you to enjoy other aspects of your life more fully, like Friday night pizza with the family or wine and chocolate cake on date night.
❤️ Allowing yourself to gain weight so you can stop the constantly obsessing over food, and protect your mental health.

You get to pick what “happy weight” means for you (and you don’t even have to weigh yourself!)

I’d love to teach you more about this in my upcoming workshop, The Roadmap to Your Happy Weight, on January 21st at 10am PST.

Just comment below “HAPPY WEIGHT” and I’ll send you the link to sign up!

Hi there! It’s been a while - let’s reconnect and introduce myself to some new faces!

I’m Caitlin, a multi-passionate entrepreneur and have been since I was selling mechanical pencils on my driveway as a 7 year old. I’m a wife, mom to 2 boys, health coach, real estate investor, crafter, chic-lit and historical fiction reader, foodie, Enneagram 7, Generator, extroverted introvert, and a rebel tendency (and a personality test aficionado!).

This page is for health coaching and I’ve been a health coach for 8 years now! I dieted for 15 years, and when I healed my relationship with food through intuitive eating, I wanted to share it with the world and I did! I had a podcast called Quit Dieting for Good and a coaching program to match.

The past two years, I’ve mainly only worked with current coaching clients while navigating another job in real estate and a second child. In that time, my beliefs on health have changed slightly and I’ve been trying to figure out how to put it into words, so here goes —

I still believe that our culture is way too obsessed with thinness, and because of that, it drives people to do extreme diets that mess with their relationship with food, and in turn, lose sight of how to truly take care of their bodies and minds.

The biggest change in my belief system is that I now believe you can focus on weight loss if that’s what you desire. Intuitive eating tells you to never focus on weight, which was helpful for me while I was unlearning dieting. I needed to do the exact opposite of what I was doing in order to heal. But I’ve realized that’s too extreme for many people, especially while navigating the thin ideal culture we live in, and I don’t believe works in every stage of your health journey.

All of this to say, I’m changing the way I help women to be more inclusive. I believe all desires are valid and want to help you be more intentional about your health, and help you find a weight that allows you to feel confident and happy without sacrificing your mental and emotional health.

If that sounds good to you, stay a while and let me teach and inspire you!

Tell me below - do we have anything in common?!

Fun news 🤩

I got a new job!

Don’t worry, I will still be health coaching 😊

But I was feeling the pull to work out in the world again, so I recently started a new job as a rental agent for a small woman-owned rental agency based in Oakland. (If you didn’t know, I worked in real estate before moving to Switzerland and I come from a family of real estate agents).

And honestly, it’s bringing me so much joy. I get to meet cool people searching for their rental homes, see some cool houses while getting to know my neighborhood better, and work closely with a few awesome colleagues.

Plus it’s flexible so I still get to work on my passion, which is health coaching!

With this new job, both boys now go to daycare full time and honestly I’m a better mom because of it. And with my new schedule, I’ve been implementing better self-care practices like morning yoga, walks after drop off, and meal planning.

I was feeling conflicted whether to share this here, but I want to go back to sharing my life and how I practice taking care of myself as a busy mama, and this is now a big part of it.

So that’s the news!

And now that I have this new job and new routine, I’m so inspired to continue helping you learn how to take care of yourself in a way that fits into your life. So stay tuned - some new fun stuff coming your way 😍

You may still have treats in your house.

They may still be tempting you (like they are tempting Tanner!).

You might have eaten too much yesterday.

You might be telling yourself to “be good” today.

What to do?!

I’ll tell you my vote...

Try to do one thing to help your body today whether that’s a walk, eating a vegetable, taking a nap, or drinking some extra water.

And then do something that will bring you joy whether that’s reading a book, shopping the after-Christmas sales, meeting up with a loved one, or {insert joyful activity here}.

It’s easier to take care of your body when you are also taking care of your mind and emotions.

And if you need a little extra help with the self-care part through the end of the year, my free holiday training, 10 Steps to Stop Overeating this Holiday Season, still applies.

I overheard her say...

“I’m getting a hot chocolate. I’m so bad.”

My first thought was, “what’s bad about getting a hot chocolate?! I’m getting one too!” Like I kinda forgot for a moment that women still struggle with food guilt.

And then I remembered, yes, I too used to fret about the calories in my Starbucks drink and felt guilty for “drinking my calories”.

I’m so sad that people still struggle this much with food. I still have my days of course, but food guilt is such a small issue nowadays and I definitely don’t tie my moral value to what I do or don’t eat anymore.

When I heard her say that, I realized there is still so much work to be done to help and I can’t wait til January.

So I made a training to help you get through the holidays as a happy and healthy version of yourself. I want you to —

Enjoy the food you eat without any guilt whatsoever
Make conscious food choices that support your wants AND needs
Allow you to feel more control around the delicious food so you don’t overeat
Take care of yourself in multiple ways so you can be mentally, physically, and emotionally balanced during the festivities of the season.

The training is called 10 Steps to Stop Overeating this Holiday Season...
..but it’s about so much more than that.

It’s about how to take care of your whole self when life is busy, there’s a whole lot of good food around, and when emotions run high.

It’s a quick 35 minute training with a pretty printable of the steps.

So go register for free, and take one stress off your holiday plate!

I’ve been doing the bare minimum for while now.

I love coaching my clients, I love this job I’ve created for myself, but doing anything extra in my business (like posting here, launching my Quit Dieting for Good course, podcasting...) has just been put on hold.

I’ve had a lot of shame around my lack of motivation. I’ve never felt this way in 5+ years of business!
I finally admitted it out loud a few weeks ago to my therapist, and she asked me if I'd heard of the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

Basically, its a pyramid and the bottom of the pyramid is what you need most, and when those needs are met you can pursue more of your (less important) needs that are higher up on the pyramid.

The bottom two levels of the pyramid are physiological needs (food, water, sleep) and safety needs (health, shelter, resources).

In the past year, I've not had enough sleep, had health issues caused by food allergies, and had a home that's been under construction for 6 months. Oh, and we're still in the midst of a global pandemic.

Basically, my whole foundation has been rocked. (maybe yours too?!)

And foundation needs to be solid before you can start or continue to build anything.

Learning about this pyramid started to make sense of everything I've been feeling lately and released so much shame I've been carrying around with me, wondering why I didn't have the capacity or motivation to do more.

I wanted to share this with you today in case you need to give yourself some more self-compassion around your lack of motivation or ability to do more right now.

Focus on getting the foundation back on solid ground, and then you will be ready to take some steps from there.

My baby now sleeps through the night, I've figured out how to eat (and enjoy!) food again despite my allergies, and this weekend we moved back into our renovated and freshly painted home.

And just yesterday, an idea popped into my head about the next course I want to offer you (work motivation is BACK!).

It's amazing what can happen when your needs are met.

I’d love to know how you’ve been really feeling lately - how are you?? Are you getting by with the bare minimum or excited about more?

Big hugs ❤️

I eat gluten and dairy free, yet am still an intuitive eater.

How does that work, you might be wondering?

Let me explain!

After many years of dieting, the first step in intuitive eating is to eat all foods to help signal to your body and brain that all foods are allowed/abundant. This is what will help you get rid of the dieting mentality and take your body out of the binge-restrict cycle.

Once this part is done, you go on a journey to figure out WHY you've been eating the way you've been eating, and what foods you want to eat and actions you want to take to allow you to feel good physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Diets only take into consideration your physical body, and often only how your physical body appears on the outside (aka weight loss).

Intuitive eating on the other hand takes all your needs into consideration.

I like to think of intuitive eating as the most loving way to nourish your whole self.

The fact that I am not eating gluten and dairy has everything to do with my health and nothing to do with restriction.

Every single time I eat something that doesn't have gluten and dairy, I'm CHOOSING to feel good in my body and my mind.

People often think intuitive eating is "giving up" or "the easy way to eat" but it's not that at all.

Intuitive eating makes your life easier because you know how to take care of yourself in all different ways, not just food.

But it's not necessarily easy.

For me, eating gluten and dairy free is most certainly not easy, especially when eating out. BUT, feeling good makes everything else in my life easier and more enjoyable -- parenting, cooking, working, relationships, socializing, and more.

It's kinda like when you start the week off with a clean house, groceries in the fridge, and a meal plan already done. It took some work to get there, but it makes the rest of your week easier and more enjoyable because you took the time to do it.

Make sense? Ok, good.

Based on everything I've been through the past few months, I've decided I want to offer something to you that's different than usual...

So check back here tomorrow to learn more!

My Health Mystery (6/6)

I kept going over all the possibilities of a burnt tongue with my acupuncturist and one thing we discussed was that I did have two fillings back in February. She suggested I call the dentist and see if there were any possible allergens in the fillings.

So I called and the dentist had never heard of allergies from fillings, but while I had her on the phone, I asked her if I could swing by and get my mouth guard cleaned since I forgot to bring it last time (they have an ultrasonic cleaner to get them extra clean, and yes, I grind my teeth at night). I brought it in later that day and a few days later...
...my tongue was completely back to normal!!

Turns out, the residue from the gluten and dairy foods I'd eaten prior to cutting them out of my diet still lived on my mouth guard (how gross is that?!) and was causing my tongue to react.

Between the food allergies, zinc deficiency, and dirty mouth guard, my health mystery was solved.

At the moment, I have gluten and dairy allergies, so I’m eating gluten and dairy free for the foreseeable future.

I’m sad about this fact, really sad to be perfectly honest, but I’m feeling so good that it makes it really easy to eat this way.

But I know some of you are wondering - how is eating gluten and dairy free still intuitive eating?!

It’s a little confusing since intuitive eating talks so much about not restricting foods, so I'll be back next week to explain!

Let me know below if you can relate to any of my story, or if you know of any gluten free/dairy free foods I must try!!

My Health Mystery (5/6)

One mystery - solved! But a new one arose.

I have always been sensitive to dairy, so I had an inkling that it might be the cause of the stomachaches.

I cut it out completely and immediately the stomachaches stopped and my energy improved.

Ugh, not the answer I was hoping for! But also happy to quickly and easily figure that one out.

YET my tongue still felt burnt! At this point, it had been 2+ months.

This burning was mostly annoying more than anything else, but I knew it had to be a symptom for an underlying issue.

My gastroenterologist ordered me a bunch of different labs to do a full food allergy panel as well as check for some vitamins and mineral deficiencies.

The results all came back normal, except for zinc, which was extremely low and is related to problems with the tongue. I had just started taking it but immediately upped my dosage. My tongue started feeling better but not healed.

I then made an appointment with a dietician that my friend calls the "witch doctor" because all of this just wasn't making any sense to me.

She didn't solve the mystery but one thing I asked her was, "Why do my lab results show no allergies but I obviously do have food allergies?".

Her response was that food allergy blood tests are to show if you are going to have an immediate negative reaction to that food (ie anaphylactic shock). But, your body can still be allergic to these foods yet react negatively in a different way, usually over a longer period of time, kind of like seasonal allergies.

For me, my food allergies (or some say intolerance/sensitivities) manifested in lightheadedness, exhaustion, weight gain, and a burnt tongue.

For others, food allergies can manifest in the form of anxiety, skin issues, inflammation, joint pain, and the list goes on.

She was really helpful in getting me to understand the WHY behind why I'm going to eat this way for the foreseeable future, because the bigger my "why" is, the easier it is to continue eating this way (as we know, weight loss for vanity is NOT a good enough why).

But, my tongue STILL felt burnt!

And I found out why in a super unexpected (and kinda gross) way…

The finale up next!
