James Gordon Baker

James “Jim” Baker

James “Jim” Baker, born July 20, 1947, in Waterville, Maine. He was the son of the late Willard P. and Mary (Hood) Baker. He became a fixture of Gorham, New Hampshire, not long after his birth; a town that would remain his home and an important part of who he was throughout his life.

Jim worked for more than 40 years at the Cascade Mill, retiring after a long career there. But Jim was never defined simply by where he worked. He was happiest around people, especially in the familiar places and among the familiar faces of the town he called home.

Most of all, Jim loved his family. He was a genuinely good man; kind, caring, generous, and always willing to share a laugh, lend a hand, or make someone feel welcome. He was also known for his great big laugh, a joyful sound that could place him out of any crowd. His warmth and wit touched the lives of all who knew him.

He is survived by his dear wife, Judy Baker of Gorham, New Hampshire; his sister, Christine Abrams and her husband, Jeff, of Portsmouth; his brothers-in-law, David MacLean and his wife, Jane, of Waterboro, Maine, and Dean MacLean and his wife, Geraldine, of Berlin, New Hampshire; and a bushel of beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Jim loved a good joke and even a bad one. He enjoyed good stories, conversation, laughter, and simply being around the people of Gorham.

One of his greatest joys was traveling to Prince Edward Island. He treasured his visits there, both for the much-adored family he went to see and for the unmistakable beauty and way of life found only on the Island of PEI.

Those who knew Jim will remember a man who loved the simple things that make life full: family gathered together, familiar faces, a good joke, a great big laugh, and a trip to an island he truly loved. He will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and the goodness he brought to the lives of those around him.

Graveside services for family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 26th, 2026 at 10:00 am in the Lary Cemetery, Smith Street, Gorham, NH.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jim’s memory to North Country Home Health and Hospice Agency, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Shriners Children’s

Emelda "Skippy" White

BERLIN----- Emelda “Skippy” M. White, 95 passed away on Sunday, August 23rd, 2026 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital. Skippy was born on October 30th, 1930 in Berlin. She was the daughter of the late John and Louise (Bigl) Guerin.

Skippy grew up and attended school in Berlin. After graduating High School, she went on to work in Massachusetts for three years before coming back home to Berlin. She worked for Crown Vantage as a towel room worker. Skippy was an active member of Good Shepherd Parish and was secretary of the White Mountain Riders Motorcycle Club. She was also an Avid Red Sox Fan.

Skippy is survived by her daughter, Marsha Morneau and husband Charlie of Berlin, grandchildren; Susan Goguen, of Canada, Jason Morneau and his wife Rachael of Plainville, MA, Melanie Janosco of Gray, ME, Holly Soprano and husband Matt of Berlin, great grandchildren; Ava Morneau, Andrew Morneau, Landon Janosco, Delilah Janosco, Luca Soprano, Aria Soprano, daughter in law, Claire White, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents Skippy was predeceased by her husband Richard “Rick” White and her son Stewart “Stew” White.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday August 28th at 2:00 pm at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.

Rosemarie Ursula Matthews

BERLIN — Rosemarie “Marie” Ursula Matthews, 62, passed away on August 21st, 2026, at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital.

Marie was born on July 15, 1964, in Fort Benning, Georgia, the daughter of Rodman and Margaret (Dermile) Matthews. She grew up and spent her childhood in North Carolina before moving to Florida in 1979, where she resided until 2003. She later made her home in Berlin, New Hampshire.

Marie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and arts and crafts. She also loved spending time downtown shopping and browsing the stores, always excited to see what she might find. She took great joy in adding to her collection and especially loved discovering new seasonal and holiday items. Snoopy was a particular favorite, and anything featuring Snoopy was sure to catch her eye.

Marie was a genuinely curious person who enjoyed learning about the world around her and connecting with others. She found happiness in simple things and approached the things she loved with genuine enthusiasm. She will be remembered fondly by the many people who came to know and care for her, and she was deeply loved by those whose lives she touched.

In accordance with Marie’s wishes, there will be no services at this time.

Clarisse St. Hilaire

Clarisse G. (Bedard) St. Hilaire, 96, of Berlin, NH passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on August 19th. Clarisse was born on May 24, 1930 to Stella (Croteau) and Edgar Bedard and raised in Berlin, NH. She married the love of her life, Charles St. Hilarie, at the age of 18. The two of them created a beautiful life together. They built a loving home with ten wonderful children. She was happiest when playing cards with her sisters and daughters, doing her puzzles, creating plastic canvas creations, working on word finds, and enjoying her visits with family. Those who knew Clarisse will remember her as a generous, caring, loving woman with a deep devotion to her Catholic faith.

Clarisse is survived by her children Robert St. Hilaire and Norman Girouard of Errol, NH, Leo and Annette St. Hilaire of Stephens City, VA, Roland and Nancy St. Hilaire of Turner, ME, Lillian and Emile Buteau of Whitefield, NH, Irene and Maurice Buteau of Berlin, NH, Lisa and Robert O’Neil of Berlin, NH, Raymond St. Hilaire of Berlin, NH, and Susan and Randy Tardiff of Berlin, NH; 22 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and 1 great grandchild soon to be here; sisters Mary Jane Goulet, Grace LaBranch and Cecile Harriman and sister-in-law Lorraine Bedard. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles St. Hilaire, her daughter Jeannette Tupick and husband Norman and her daughter Claudette Tupick and her husband Michael, her grandchildren Jeremy Tupick and Jessica Nelson, her sister Theresa Bedard and her brother Norman Bedard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday August 27, 2026 at 11 AM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Interment will follow the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Lucille S. Frechette

Lucille S. Frechette, 91, of Berlin, passed away on Sunday August 16, 2026 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital. She was born in Berlin on January 14, 1935 the daughter of Arthur and Anita (Demers) Martel and was a lifelong resident. She had been employed by Granite State Rubber and Car Freshener.

Family includes her siblings Cecile Poulin of Berlin, NH, Norman J. Martel of North Carolina and Albert Martel of Virginia; many nieces, nephews and cousins, including a special cousin Patty Berry of Berlin. She was predeceased by her husband Maurice A. Frechette, her son Paul Frechette and siblings Arthur Martel, Lorette A. Michaud, Aurore A. Lavoie, Doris P. MacDonald, Shirley Bourassa, Lillian Martel and Rita Martel.

Interment will take place on Friday, August 21, 2026 at 1pm at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Berlin, all are welcome. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are entrusted to Bryant Funeral Homes and Crematory. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.bryantfuneralhome.net.

Lawrence E. "Tiger" Greenip, III

Lawrence E. "Tiger" Greenip, III, 60, of Gorham, NH, passed away on Saturday August 15, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was born in Westwood, NJ on November 27, 1965 the son of Lawrence E. Greenip, Jr and Patricia A. (Hamburg) Greenip and was raised there. He moved to Chester, VT in 1974 and later attended college at Long Island University. Tiger moved to Burlington, VT after college and moved to Gorham in September of 2011. Tiger was a musician, song writer, drummer and singer. He was in many bands and was the President of the Elvis Fan Club of Vermont. He entertained people at nursing homes in both Vermont and New Hampshire as an Elvis tribute entertainer. He had also been employed in the grocery industry.

Family includes his wife Sheila (Boisclair) Greenip of Gorham, NH; his parents Lawrence and Patricia Greenip of East Randolph, VT; his siblings James S. Greenip of Burlington, VT, Deborah D. Richardson and husband Eric of Chester, VT and Tricia M. Covey and husband Larry of Fairlee, VT; nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Graveside Services will be held on Friday August 21, 2026 at 1 PM at in the Holy Family Cemetery in Gorham, NH. Donations in his memory may be made to the Dartmouth Cancer Center or to the Conway Area Humane Society & www.dogmt.com. The Bryant Funeral Home in Gorham is in charge of the arrangements. Andrew "Andy" Porter III

Andrew "Andy" Porter, III, 81, of Gorham, NH, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Morrison Nursing Home with family by his side after a battle with cancer. He was born on September 21, 1944 in Island Falls, ME the son of the late Richard W. Sr. and Emma (McGraw) Porter.

For many years Andrew was employed by the Maine State Police where he rose through the ranks and served as Detective Corporal in Troop F, Aroostook County as well as Criminal Investigative Division 3. As a detective Andrew worked on and solved many high-level cases that led to justice for victims. Even after he retired from the Troopers, Andrew still devoted his time to solving crimes through his detailed case notes and was a proud member of the Maine Retired Troopers Organization. Also, in retirement Andrew and Carol would often take off in their small RV traveling all over North America. From Maine to Florida to Alaska, they were thrilled by the adventures and couldn’t wait to see what was waiting for them around the next bend in the road. Andrew was a grand storyteller and conversationalist, listeners would hear about growing up on the family farm in Northen Maine, his time investigating, as well as his family, and current events. As a wine connoisseur, he would always smirk as the opportunity arose to pour an extra tall glass for his friends and family. In his younger years he could often be found fishing, hunting, and causing a ruckus on the farm. He was devoted to his family and will be greatly missed for his steadfastness, poise, and genuine spirit.

He is survived by his wife Carol (Turcotte) Porter of Gorham; children: Tom Porter of Kenduskeag, ME, Darrin Porter and wife Amy of Midlothian, VA and step-son Lee Corrigan and fiancé Amanda Perras of Gorham; grandchildren: Andrew IV, James, Cody and wife Amanda, Micah, Emilya, Ryan; great-granddaughter Bayleigh; brother Richard Porter, Jr. of Island Falls, ME; several in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a step-son Ryan Corrigan, sister Jeannine Johnson, sister-in-law Joanne Porter.

SERVICES: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 21, 2026 at 10am at Holy Family Church, 7 Church St., Gorham, NH with interment following at Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Morrison Nursing Home, 6 Terrace St., Whitefield, NH 03598 (memo: Activities Fund) where he was cared for in a very heartfelt way.
