šŸ’¬Reach out to an old friend

A few weeks ago I reached out to an old male friend that I hadn’t talked to in a while. Honestly, I thought it had only been a few months since we last talked, but we realized it was actually two years!

āž”ļøWhen I asked him how he was doing, he told me that he was in town dealing with some serious family issues.

I’m so glad I reached out during this time!šŸ’—Since we connected, I could be there and continue to be there for him as a friend - that is what friendship is all about!

Take this as your sign to reach out to an old friend that you haven’t talked to in a while! And I’d love to hear how it goes in the commentsšŸ©µā¬‡ļø

šŸ—“ļøWhen I tell people that I take the whole month of August off, they often respond with, ā€œI’m so jealous of that.ā€

šŸ’”Let’s dig a little into this response. WHY are you jealous of that? WHICH PART makes you jealous? WHAT is actually appealing to you?

For some it’s genuinely taking the time off. But for others it can mean they have a desire to travel more, do nothing, spend more time with friends and family, or have more time alone, etc.āœˆļøšŸ˜“šŸ§‘ā€šŸ§‘ā€šŸ§’ā€šŸ§’

And once we know what you actually want, we can try to figure out a way for you to implement that particular desire into your life.

āž”ļøAlso, once you finally get that time off, make the best use of it by actually doing what you want!

If you need to recharge and seeing people drains you, don’t make so many plans! And don’t feel bad about it!

How do you spend your time off or how would you like to spend future time off? I’d love to hear in the commentsšŸ©µā¬‡ļø

ā˜€ļøšŸŒ™Don’t start and end your day on your phone

āž”ļøIt’s important to find little pockets at the beginning and end of each day to disconnect from the online world and have a mini-recharge.

Here are some things I do to protect by peace each morning & evening:

ā°use a physical alarm clock
šŸ“§don’t check work emails as soon as you get up
🪄don’t look at your phone until after your morning hygiene routine
šŸ›ļødon’t look at your phone in bed
šŸ“±don’t scroll socials in bed

In short, try not to have your phone near you at the beginning and end of your day!

This small change can help you have less stressful mornings and restful evenings šŸ’›

How do you stay off of your phone in the morning and evenings? And how does this extra time off your screens make you feel? I’d love to hear in the comments!ā¬‡ļø

Taking August OFFā˜€ļøšŸŒ»

šŸ”‹Like I’ve typically done, I’ll be taking the month of August off to relax and recharge.

I’m very excited about it, but my biggest fear is that I’ll spend too much time on my phone… which we all know is NOT recharging & actually drains our energy🪫

So, I do two things to keep my phone at bay:
šŸ“µI don’t leave it right next to me or walk around with it at all times
ā›µļøI schedule non phone based activities (sailing trip, stand up paddleboard)

What are things you do without your phone that help you feel more present & enjoy the activity? Let me know down below!šŸ’›ā¬‡ļø

My favorite hack for better sleep…
šŸ‘¶šŸ»Treat yourself like a baby!

As a mom, I remember putting my babies to bed by giving them a bath, reading them a story, and then dimming the lights.

So I encourage you to try of those same habits for yourself before bed:
šŸ“–read a book
šŸ›take a bath
šŸ“ŗwatch TV (intentionally)

How you end your day really makes a difference in the quality of sleep you’re going to get!

Let me know in the comments what your favorite thing to wind down in the evening!šŸ©µā¬‡ļø

šŸŽ¶Our emotions are influenced by music

Thus, music is one of the quickest ways we can change our mood.

šŸŽ§Music can calm us, excite us, relax us–whatever state you choose. So choose wisely & let music serve you!

And speaking of the power of music, I’m so excited to be seeing in concert in August. I love her music because it expresses heartbreak, relationship challenges, figuring out who you are, loving yourself - many wonderful themes!

In the comments, I’d love to hear your favorite songs or type of music & what mood it puts you in!šŸ’œā¬‡ļø

Lasting male friendshipsšŸš¹šŸ’™

Remember the book I talked about a while back, Who Needs Friends? by Andrew McCarthy

ā³Thinking about that book, I’ve noticed how many male teens and young adults make friendship a priority, BUT as they get to middle age they’ve let many of their male friendships go.

🚫Then once they reach retirement, they’re not sure what to do and often feel lonely…

😁The men that I find are thriving at that age have built up those relationships, activities, connections, communities, and rituals prior to retirement!

What can you do? Join a recurring activity!
šŸŽ¾tennis
ā›³ļøgolf
ā™Ÿļøchess
šŸ“–book club

Let me know in the comments if you’re already involved in any of these clubs or recurring activities?ā¬‡ļø And if not, I encourage you to go try one!

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is complicatedšŸ’Š

This point has been highlighted in Rachel Rubin’s hormone course!

Being on HRT is not just a simple yes or no.
āž”ļøYou have to consider:
• which hormone are you on?
• what iteration or type?
• what formulation?
• what dosage?
• what symptoms do you want to address?

So make sure you consider these nuances when thinking about or discussing HRT!

And make sure to advocate for yourself and get the help that you needšŸ’›

ā˜€ļøWhat’s your theme this summer?

Remember a few weeks back when we talked about Gretchen Rubin | Happiness Expert designing your summer? Well, I wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing!

My two themes were:
šŸ§‘ā€šŸ§’ā€šŸ§’spending time with family
šŸ”‹recharging

I’ve been able to spend lots of time with my daughters because they’ve both been in the vicinity, and I have lots of recharging on tap for August!šŸ’œ

That’s my update, and I’d love to hear in the comments what your summer theme is? What’s going well? What’s not going well?ā¬‡ļø
