Seeing Your Partner Metaphorically

Seeing a lover as giving you gifts, albeit at times gifts you may not understand, is another metaphysical way of being in relationship. The gift might be confidence or momentum to achieve something, an introduction to an art form you’ve never experienced before, or a new ability to experience leisure. I’m not speaking here of being overly tolerant. But it is easy to view people as objects who are bringing us pleasure or displeasure. With our higher selves, though, we see others as agents of something greater. You become freer, then, to appreciate them.
