Louisa Frey passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2026, held by the love of family and friends whose lives she touched over her many years.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Edwin H. Frey and Virginia Lang Frey, she grew up with a love of learning, music, and community that remained with her throughout her life.

She graduated from Liberty High School in Bethlehem and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Music from Moravian College in 1966.

Professionally, she enjoyed a successful career in banking, serving in management and sales development roles with KNBT Bank and Embassy Bank. She also worked in several roles she loved, including managing the Sun Inn Gift Shop and helping at North Star Orchard's Sunday farmer’s market stand in Emmaus.

She believed deeply in service and spent much of her life putting that belief into action. Over the years, she: served as an Elder at Central Moravian Church, sang in the church choir, edited the church's early printed quarterly publication (The Star), became President of the Church Council, and later served as the Chair of the Refugee Committee and helped settle two refugee families.

Her commitment to her community also found expression through Meals on Wheels, where she volunteered, served on the board, chaired the Development Committee, and helped ensure that others were cared for and remembered.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures. She was an avid reader who never seemed to be without a book nearby. She loved gardening, needlepoint, music, musical theater, good food and lots of friends. She practiced Tai Chi for a long time, cherished spirited discussions with her beloved "Bankers Book Club", and was always eager to learn something new.

She leaves behind her daughter, Lisa Ruch, and her son, Chris Ruch, grandchildren Amanda Ruch and Cera Rose Madrigal, brother Richard Frey, and many other extended family, friends, fellow church members, and countless others whose lives were enriched by her friendship, encouragement, and example.

Her family finds comfort in knowing that the values she lived by—service, faith, friendship, and love—continue to ripple outward through all the lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Moravian Church or St. Luke’s Hospice, both of Bethlehem. All are invited to a Memorial Service on Friday, June 12, at 11AM at the Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem, PA.

Graduation season is upon us and many of us are attending high school or college graduations. While some things have changed from when we graduated, some things remained steeped in tradition. Ever wonder where some of these traditions originate? We all know that when Pomp and Circumstance starts to play, the graduates file in but when did that song become part of the graduation tradition?

The instantly recognizable tune, played during the processional march as graduates arrive to collect their degrees, was composed in 1901 and originally performed in 1902 to honor the coronation of King Edward VII of Great Britain. It made its U.S. graduation debut in 1905, when Yale bestowed an honorary degree on the song’s composer, Edward Elgar—and quickly spread to other schools.

Many of us were able to take in Taps Across Bethlehem on Saturday to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country but do you know when the Taps song originated? Originally a 'lights out' signal during the Civil War in 1862, it evolved into a powerful symbol of military respect. The U.S. Army officially incorporated "Taps" into burial ceremonies in its Infantry Drill Regulations in 1891. Pearson Funeral Home, Inc.

Tomorrow is World Bee Day and our annual reminder about what an important day it is! According to the United Nations, about 90% of the world’s wild flowering plant species, 75% of the world’s food crops, and 35% of global agricultural land depend, at least partly, on animal pollination. That makes bees pretty essential! So don't swat at them, offer them plants in your yard or garden that help them do the important work that they do. Pearson Funeral Home, Inc.

Nancy A. Hartman, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2026 in Kirkland Village, Bethlehem. She was the wife of the late Gerald S. Hartman, who died in 2015, and the daughter of the late Leon W. and Margaret E. (Schmoyer) Ritter.

A proud Allentown High School graduate, Nancy had fond memories of growing up downtown, shopping at Hess's and participating in activities and services at St. John's Lutheran Church. She had a diverse set of interests including crocheting, completing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, trying her hand at golf and tennis, and watching old movies (ones featuring Cary Grant and Fred Astaire were her favorites.) She was also an avid fan of British television shows such as Are You Being Served? and Keeping Up Appearances. Often Nancy could be found in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes, and was known for her homemade chicken potpie, her signature coleslaw, and her famous sour cream chocolate cake. She enjoyed studying nutrition and ways to make various baked goods healthier, but was also an unabashed sweet tooth who kept a secret stash of chocolate in her bureau drawer. Nancy liked being outdoors in nature, whether that be taking walks, puttering in her garden, watching and identifying the various birds at her many backyard feeders, or looking at books of Impressionist flower paintings. She also loved wearing any shade of the color red. An absolute original, she was known for her offbeat sense of humor and wit, and found amusement in life's absurdities, while relishing her own eccentricities as well.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Heidecker and her husband Charles, and Andrea Hartman, all of Bethlehem, and her son Gerald S. Hartman Jr. and wife Cori of Vernon Hills, IL. In addition, she is survived by her three granddaughters: Keri Heidecker and her husband Rick Clee, Kate Hartman, and Robin Hartman. She is also survived by a brother Donald Ritter and wife Charlotte of Allentown, as well as sister Audrey Keeney of Easton.

Private services are being handled by the Pearson Funeral Home, 1901 Linden Street, Bethlehem.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to St. Luke’s Hospice, Development Office, 801 Ostrum St., Bethlehem, PA 18015. Pearson Funeral Home, Inc.
