The mind is powerful. It can have a stronghold on the past or an openness to what is happening now free from regret, guilt, "what if's," and the replay of mistakes and awful experiences. Any of these don't have to define us.

Sometimes the journey through grief feels like scaling a wall of rock. The right equipment matters. Realistic expectations and support matter. The ability to adjust to the "terrain of loss" matters.

For a sweet life: If you don't know what to do, choose to be kind. If you don't know what to say, choose to be silent. If you don't know what to think, choose gratitude.

This may come as a surprise, but human beings need 7 DIFFERENT TYPES OF REST to thrive: physical, mental, sensory, creative, emotional, social, and spiritual. According to the American Psychological Association, we require a holistic approach to rest to prevent burnout and promote our well-being. This comprehensive rest involves physical rest through sleep, naps, or active practices like yoga, as well as mental rest that allows us to take breaks from taxing work and quiet our constant stream of thoughts that can be overwhelming. It also requires sensory rest to disconnect from overuse of electronics and exposure to noise, creative rest to refuel our inspiration by taking in the beauty of nature or art, and emotional rest to freely express our feelings and set healthy boundaries. Finally, we need social rest by prioritizing relationships with supportive people over draining ones, and spiritual rest to connect with something beyond our ordinary selves through practices like meditation.

Time with good friends is good medicine! Humans are social beings and need healthy relationships to thrive, those that uplift us and inspire us. Of course, some people need more time alone than others do to rejuvenate, but prolonged social isolation is detrimental to mental wellness. Be with people you like, and do fun things with them.

Low-level anxiety is becoming an undercurrent for many people these days. If we want to take care of our minds, it's very important to manage our exposure as well as our reactions to the catalysts. When it comes to news, we can be informed but not consumed. When it comes to others' actions, we can observe but not absorb. Setting and maintaining personal boundaries is crucial, and a form of mental-protection and self-care.
