Healing Hoofbeats of CT, Inc. Our Mission: To foster connection and support empowerment through equine and animal supported therapy

Healing Hoofbeats specializes in working with individuals, couples, families and groups through Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. Utilizing both unmounted and mounted techniques, clients are able to work through their challenges and struggles, be it trauma-related or not, through experiential work with horses. Horses have long maintained their "wild" instincts through centuries of being domesticated,

offering themselves as the perfect partner for therapy. Horses are a perfect partner for therapy, as they utilize their instincts and keen sensitivity to non-verbal communication to assist their human counterparts in healing and experiencing new ways to develop relationships, regulate emotions and heal from invisible wounds. Our therapists are not only licensed mental health professionals, but also horse professionals as well. Healing Hoofbeats also has goats, kittens, chickens and a certified therapy dog for those who may want to work with different animals. We believe that every client is unique and deserves an individualized treatment plan to include the therapy model which best suites him or her. We also offer Equine Assisted Psychotherapy groups that focus on coping skills, social skills, parent support, coping with mental health, Veterans, domestic violence victims, substance abuse recovery, depression, and corporate team building sessions!

Last Tuesday we were fortunate enough to be able to host the Connecticut Chamber of Commerce for their "Caffeine and Connections" breakfast networking event. It was a pleasure to have everyone take a tour of Healing Hoofbeats and learn more about the important work we are doing. Thank you for coming out and spending the morning with us and our Animal Healers!

We are also grateful to our favorite local coffee and bagel shop, 's Bagels & Coffee for their generous donation of pastries for this special event.

We would like to take a moment to honor the memory and legacy of one of our biggest supporters, Pete D'amato, who passed away last week. Our Board President, Paul Laedke, was his neighbor and spent many special moments with him and writes:

"Pete D’Amato served our country during the Vietnam War as a radio operator in the Army. His call sign was “Big Canoe.” I met Pete shortly after moving to Southbury. He lived down the street and one day while walking his dog he stopped my car to chat about my Veteran plates. This man was the epitome of what service and community means and it was his purpose to live those fully. After a career at IBM, Pete worked for the Waterbury BOE supporting 10 elementary schools. You’d see him every spring putting out flags on the graves of Veterans and every early winter placing wreaths on those same graves. He led tours of area graves and would tell the history of some of the soldiers buried there. He led cleaning project with the area scouts to remove debris from grave sites. He was active in the local VFW and always had an extended hand for those that may need it."

Please listen to Paul's podcast interview with Pete to learn more about this incredible man.

Meet Cash the therapy dog!

Today we are highlighting our adorable, bat-eared cutie, Cash! At just 2½ years old, he is already making an incredible impact at Healing Hoofbeats of CT! This Staffordshire Terrier has completed both his K9 Good Citizen and K9 Good Citizen Advanced certifications and is now on his way to becoming a Certified Therapy Dog.

And Cash isn't just a good boy, he's got some serious speed! He participates in Fast CAT, the 100-meter dash for dogs, where he gets to show off his athletic side.

We can't wait to watch Cash continue his journey as an Animal Healer and bring his unique combination of love, energy, and companionship to the people we serve.

Today for our Animal Healer spotlight, we want to introduce Toby, our resident master escape artist. Toby is a delightfully sweet 3 year old Nigerian Dwarf who loves being with his "brothers" Eli and Hunter. We wish we could say his favorite hobby is cuddling and spending time with our clients, whom he adores, but his true passion is figuring out just how and when he can escape his paddock to munch on all the delicious vegetables we have growing in our community farm. If you have any fun pictures of Toby you'd like to share, post them in the comments!

Rooted Together is a new meetup group designed to bring LGBTQ+ tweens and teens together in a welcoming, affirming farm environment under the guidance of a Licensed Clinician. As safe "third spaces" for adolescents have become increasingly rare, this program provides an opportunity for young people to hang out in a supportive, judgment free setting. Through shared experiences, interactions with our Animal Healers, and s'mores over a bonfire, this is an excellent way to build connection.

RSVP for both the tween and teen program here: https://www.healinghoofbeatsofct.org/programs
