• Calvin Coolidge, our 30th president, was born on the 4th of July 1872.
• Benjamin Franklin was the oldest to sign the Declaration of independence at 70 years old and Edward Rutledge was the youngest at 26.
• John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe all died on the 4th of July.
• The Liberty Bell has not been rung since 1846, but is symbolically tapped 13 times every year on the 4th of July in order to avoid cracking it.
• Only 2.5 million people lived in the United States at the time the Declaration of Independence was signed – which is about a quarter of the amount of people currently living in New York City alone.
