Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are the cornerstone of our daily work.

Every day, they support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) by providing personalized care and assistance to help them live safe, independent, and fulfilling lives.

Help us celebrate the incredible DSPs in our community! Tag a DSP in the comments and thank them for all they do. 💙

We can tell lawmakers why the intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) community deserves funding, but it's also important to show them.

That's why we need YOU to share your story: https://bit.ly/4y2YAZ1

ACLD IS… 💙

More than an organization. More than the programs and services we provide. ACLD is a community built on compassion, connection and opportunity.

But what does ACLD truly mean to the people who experience it every day? We set out to answer that question by sharing the voices, perspectives and experiences of the people who make our community so extraordinary.

Because ACLD is not defined by one story, one experience, or one person. It is the friendships formed, the milestones celebrated, the independence gained, the families supported and the dedicated individuals who make it all possible.

Since 1957, ACLD has been committed to creating opportunities for children and adults with autism, learning and developmental disabilities to pursue those lives.

And while ACLD may mean something different to everyone, one thing remains the same: the people are what make us WHO we are.

This is our community. This is our heart. ACLD is us.

What an incredible day at the Annual Talent Connection Job Expo at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center! 👏

ACLD was proud to present the expo alongside Family Residences and Essential Enterprises, Inc. [FREE], AHRC Nassau and Life's Worc, in partnership with New York State Education Department, New York State Department of Labor and the Town of Oyster Bay.

🤝 Special thanks to our sponsors, vendors, Jamie Stuart our Master of Ceremonies, Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino and keynote speaker, Willow Baer, Commissioner of the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities.

🌟Commissioner Baer spent time with Star Award recipient Morris and stopped by Candleworks by ACLD to sample some of their best sellers.

💼Most importantly, the expo brought job seekers and employers together to build connections that can lead to bright futures.

As the fall season kicks into full swing, we are also heading into another budget year, meaning it is more important now than ever to understand what the intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) system needs.

This year, we are calling for a 3.4% Targeted Inflationary Increase, a CareForce Wage Investment, and the restoration of the Healthcare Enhancement Program.

Together, these investments will help providers retain skilled staff, keep up with rising costs and health care expenses, and ensure that people with I/DD can continue to receive the services and supports they rely on.
