The clip shows how we carefully harvest a small section of rib cartilage that will be sculpted into a new outer ear for a young female patient with microtia.
Microtia is a congenital condition where the external ear does not fully develop before birth. During autologous ear reconstruction, the patient’s own rib cartilage is used to create a framework that closely resembles a natural ear. That framework is then placed beneath the skin to form the new ear over multiple stages.
