If you’ve ever felt chronically fatigued, struggled focusing, experienced a “foggy” brain or lost your train of thought...you probably would have never imagined that your mouth could be the hidden mysterious cause.
Yet, this opening that we use every day could be silently affecting our health in ways most of us never would even consider. That bacteria hanging out between your teeth? It’s not just fixated on staying there to cause cavities and bad breath. It can actually travel throughout your entire body and cause all sorts of trouble - even severe chronic illnesses like Alzheimer’s and Heart Disease.
Your mouth is essentially Grand Central Station for bacteria - some helpful, some harmful.
When you don’t brush or floss regularly, the bad guys multiply like crazy. These bacteria can enter your bloodstream through tiny cuts or inflamed gum tissue and take a road trip through your body.
Ever peak in the mirror and notice your gums get red, swollen, or bleed easily? This is a sign of gum disease, which creates a constant state of inflammation in your mouth.
Your body’s immune system then kicks into high gear, which sounds good until you realize that chronic inflammation is like keeping your body’s engine revving 24/7 - and eventually, going to wreak havoc on the rest of your body and immune system.
So many of us treat dental care as optional or something we can put off until we’re in pain. We need to start thinking of our mouths as connected to everything else - because they absolutely ARE.
Next time you’re tempted to skip brushing
because you’re tired, remember: you’re not just taking care of your teeth. You’re taking care of your WHOLE body.
