Last week we returned to our home base of Massachusetts for the Situation Table Convening! Situation tables are dedicated to identifying individuals or families who have an acute need, and connecting them with community partners who can help bridge gaps in services. We had the opportunity to meet with 11 different situation tables across the state to learn, collaborate, and contribute to the continued success of this program. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

PAARI would like to spotlight our intern, Lieutenant Ryan Macherone of the Schenectady Police Department in NY! While working on his Masters in Public Health, Lieutenant Macherone has been working with us to develop a training program for police officers and public health officials to increase their understanding of substance use disorders and deflection-based approaches. Thank you for all of your work towards creating more compassionate, evidence-based programs for our communities!

As he completes his Master of Public Health at the University at Albany, Lieutenant Ryan Macherone is changing police work through harm reduction initiatives that connect people to care rather than arresting them or pursuing charges through the criminal justice system.
