The likelihood is low… but never zero 👀

My brain: “This is unnecessary.”
Me: “Noted.”
Also me: still shutting the gate.

Sometimes insight doesn’t override instinct, and that’s okay. We pick out battles sometimes. This is not one of them for me. 😆

Hobbies remind us that we’re still people outside of the roles we carry. This is especially important for first responders and their families. Hobbies give our nervous systems somewhere safe to land while also helping us build identity outside of work, productivity, and survival mode.

They also challenge us in healthy ways. Learning something new, figuring out problems, making mistakes, and trying again helps our brains experience growth outside of stress.

For me, that’s been gardening the last few years. Every season I learn something different. Why one plant thrives while another struggles. How small adjustments matter. It teaches me to pay attention to the nuances and slow things down when my natural instinct is usually to do the opposite.

Here’s to another year of strengthening a growth area, increasing my frustration tolerance, and reconnecting with my own interests.

For a lot of first responder families, life can start to feel like a constant cycle of just surviving the schedule. Shift work, sports practices, appointments, laundry, meals, dishes, and repeat.

We get so focused on getting everything done that we forget to slow down long enough to actually be with each other.

Use the pto to actually slow down and sit with each other. All of our nervous systems need it.

We had an incredible time in Indiana working with officers on advancing their peer support skills and wellness programs!

Gone are the days where we expect first responders to white knuckle it through this career.

Next up - Colorado June 17th-18th. 🤘 I can't wait.

Noblesville and Westfield Police Department - Indiana had the opportunity to participate in Advanced Peer Support Training by TacMobility, focusing on strengthening our ability to support one another both on and off the job.

The course provided practical tools and meaningful conversations that reinforce the importance of peer support within our profession. And of course, we weren’t the only ones in attendance, K9 Sadie made sure to sit in on the training as well. While we can’t confirm she took notes, we’re confident she boosted morale and mastered the “emotional support” portion of the course.

Listen first. Offer solution? Maybe.

Do you find yourself offering solutions first?

Have a child that struggles with perfectionism? This is the book!

My 4 year old and I have been reading this and it has changed the way she views the process of learning. "To be good at something, you first do it bad." 👏

Also, a good reminder for us adults that learning cannot be done without errors.
