Veterans: Thinking About Getting Your Flu Shot Early?
Before you roll up your sleeve at Publix or Walgreens this summer, here’s something to consider: Did you know July and August aren’t recommended months for flu vaccination for most people? The CDC says September and October are the best times to get protected.
⁉️Ask yourself:
🤔 Will you be able to get your flu shot in September or October? Are you 65 or older, or pregnant in your first or second trimester? If so, getting vaccinated too early may mean your protection wears off before flu season peaks.
🤰 Are you pregnant and in your third trimester? In that case, early vaccination can be a good idea—your baby will benefit from protection right after birth when they’re too young for the vaccine themselves.
Why does timing matter?
⚠️ Immunity fades over time, especially for older adults. Getting vaccinated too early could leave you less protected when flu activity is highest.
✨ So, what’s your plan? Planning your flu shot for September or October ensures the strongest protection. Early vaccination is only helpful in specific situations.
