The First Harvest, The Full Moon, & The Cosmic Fire: Lughnasadh Illuminated 🌾🌕🔥

Every year on August 1st, we reach one of the eight sacred turning points on the Wheel of the Year: Lughnasadh (also known as Lammas). Positioned at the exact midpoint between the summer solstice and the autumn equinox, Lughnasadh marks the beginning of the grain harvest—the very first of the three seasonal harvest celebrations.

It is a moment suspended between worlds: the height of summer’s warmth, and the first quiet whisper that the light is beginning its slow shift toward autumn.

When you layer this cross-quarter festival with a Full Moon and a dramatic Jupiter-Solar alignment, the seasonal shift transforms from a simple calendar check-in into a powerful cosmic threshold.

Meaning & History: The First Loaf

* Origins: Lughnasadh is named in honor of the Celtic master craftsman god, Lugh. The Anglo-Saxon name, Lammas, stems from hlaf-maesse or "loaf-mass"—the consecration of the very first wheat gathered from the fields and baked into fresh bread.

* The First Checkpoint: Before Mabon (the autumn equinox) or Samhain (final harvest/winter threshold), Lughnasadh is about taking stock of early yields while the fields are still active.

* The Paradox: It carries a dual energy—celebrating immediate abundance while grounding ourselves in the realistic acknowledgment that the darker half of the year is approaching.

The Full Moon: Peak Exposure & Illumination
The Full Moon is the natural culmination point of the lunar cycle, acting as a cosmic flashlight. When a Full Moon aligns with the First Harvest, it illuminates what has actually matured:

* Solar Meets Lunar: Lughnasadh honors the peak power of the sun just as it begins its slow decline. A Full Moon sitting opposite the sun creates a balanced axis: maximum daylight energy reflecting fully back to us through the night sky.

* Taking Stock: Just as farmers historically worked late into the fields under the moonlight, the Full Moon invites you to look clearly at your personal mid-year yield. What seeds planted earlier this year have borne tangible fruit? What hard work is paying off right now?

The Jupiter Element: Burning Away the Fluff
Adding classical astrology’s "Greater Benefic"—Jupiter—to the mix shifts the energy from quiet reflection to high-stakes transformation.

When Jupiter sits in direct alignment with the Sun, standard astrology calls it combust—an intensity that can feel almost "kamikaze," like diving headfirst into the solar furnace. But at the exact heart of the Sun (a state known as Cazimi), a planet isn't destroyed—it is purified, recharged, and reborn.

* Amplification: Jupiter blows up whatever the Full Moon illuminates. It forces you out of small-thinking and into the true scale of what you are building.

* The Great Fire Shift: Paired with major outer-planet movements, this fiery energy acts like oxygen hitting a spark. It demands total authenticity. Fire doesn't hedge its bets; it burns away excuses so only what is real and durable remains.

* Generosity & Trust: Jupiter rules faith and expansion. The First Harvest reminds us that abundance isn't meant to be hoarded out of fear—it’s meant to be shared, celebrated, and trusted to sustain us through the winter ahead.

Rituals & Practical Customs for the First Harvest
You don't need to harvest an actual field of wheat to tap into this alignment. Here is how to honor the energy:

* Bake & Share Fresh Bread: Make a loaf from scratch (or source one locally). Bake it with clear intentions of gratitude, break it with people you love, or offer a portion back to the earth.

* Conduct a Mid-Year Audit: Step outside under the moonlight and write down your "first harvest" wins from this year. Acknowledge what worked, but equally acknowledge what no longer needs tending so you can stop wasting energy on dead crops.

* Set a Jupiter-Sized Vision: Use the fiery solar-lunar light to clear space for what’s next. Ask yourself: What am I ready to burn away in order to make room for my next chapter of growth?

Cosmic Pressure & Somatic Reality: Navigating Today’s Aquarius Full Moon, Jupiter, and Nervous System Expansion

Today, July 29th, brings a powerful cosmic intersection: the Aquarius Full Moon illuminating the sky while the Sun forms a direct conjunction (Cazimi) with Jupiter.

When high-intensity cosmic transits hit, we don't just feel them emotionally—we register them physically. If your body has felt dysregulated, hyper-vigilant, or uncomfortably wired over the last 24–48 hours, you aren't imagining it. Your nervous system is processing a massive surge of input.

1. The Mechanics: Astrology Meets Somatic Psychology

* The Aquarius Full Moon (The Cognitive Shift):

Full Moons bring culmination and emotional exposure. Aquarius operates through the lens of objective awareness and nervous system wiring (traditionally linked to circulation and nerve pathways). It forces us out of cognitive loops and asks: What outdated conditioning am I clinging to out of familiar habit?

* The Sun-Jupiter Conjunction (The Expansion Strain):

Jupiter expands whatever it touches. When Jupiter amplifies solar energy, it pushes our capacity. Psychologically, expansion feels great in theory—but to the human autonomic nervous system, rapid change looks like a threat.

Growth requires widening your window of tolerance so you can hold greater capacity without slipping into fight, flight, or shutdown.

2. The Personal Blueprint: Why Jupiter Rules the Frequency

Having a Triple Sagittarius placement (Sun, Moon, and Ascendant) means Jupiter is my chart ruler—making days like today feel intensely visceral.

The archetype of Jupiter and Sagittarius is often romanticized as pure optimism, but from a behavioral health perspective, it’s about sovereignty and psychological resilience.

It’s the drive to stop living in adaptive survival modes, break free from self-imposed limitations, and align with truth. True expansion isn't passive; it requires regulating through the discomfort of letting old versions of yourself die off.

3. Full Moon Holy Fire® Somatic Activation

Take a deep breath into your diaphragm, drop your shoulders away from your ears, unclamp your jaw, and let this intention ground through your physical body:

> Divine Source, Holy Fire®, and Universal Intelligence:

> On this day of potent illumination, I invite the Holy Fire® to flow through my mind, spirit, and cellular body.

> Calm my nervous system as I navigate this energetic expansion. Burn away subconscious survival patterns, hyper-vigilance, and lingering fear that keep me tethered to past conditioning.

> I call on the expansive frequency of Jupiter to widen my capacity for truth, capacity, and emotional regulation. Let the light of this Aquarius Full Moon illuminate my highest direction while keeping me deeply anchored, safe, and regulated in my own skin.

> May I stand fully rooted in my sovereignty, guided by clear perception, and unshakeable in my purpose.

> And so it is.

Somatic Check-In for Today:

When energy runs high, don't try to think your way through a physical reaction. Ground your feet on the earth, slow your exhale, let the Full Moon reveal what's ready to be released, and let Jupiter expand your capacity to hold your power.

How is your body feeling under this sky today?

July 28th, 2020 was the day I officially filed for divorce.

Six years ago, taking that step felt like stepping off a cliff into the unknown. I went through a season where it felt like the ground was crumbling beneath me, where I was misunderstood, gaslit, and facing a future that looked nothing like what I had planned for twenty years of my life. People doubted my choices, and honestly, back then, I was still trying to be the peacekeeper, the fixer, and the one who absorbed everything just to keep the quiet.

Moving out, starting over from scratch, and building a nomadic pet/housesitting life wasn't just a change of address or career—it was a total reclamation of who I am.

Looking back now, on the threshold of turning 50 this year, I see that painful transition for what it truly was: my initiation into sovereignty.

I stopped trying to fix people who didn't want to help themselves. I stopped performing. I stopped living for everyone else's comfort and started living for my own truth, my own dreams, and my own peace.

To heal, you have to let it all move through you—the anger, the disappointment, the grief—and then you have to let it go. Not to make excuses for the past, but to clear room for the incredible life waiting for you in the present.

Six years ago, I thought I was losing my foundation. It turns out, I was just finally building my own. ✨
