Fall sports are kicking off and so is injury season for many young athletes. 🏈⚽🏀
After a summer of less structured activity, kids often jump straight back into practices and games at full intensity. That sudden increase in load is one of the biggest reasons we see sprains, strains, overuse injuries, and even more serious issues like ACL tears or growth-plate problems.
The good news? Most of these injuries are preventable with the right habits and a little proactive care.
Here are 5 healthy practices every parent and coach can put into action right now:
1. Prioritize a proper dynamic warm up (not just static stretching) before every practice and game.
2. Build strength gradually focus on core, hips, and lower body stability.
3. Follow the 10% rule: never increase training volume or intensity by more than 10% per week.
4. Protect recovery aim for 8–10 hours of sleep and at least one full rest day per week.
5. Listen to the body. Lingering pain is a signal, not something to “push through.”
