Iāve been learning and leaning into this concept of REFRAME lately. As you may or may not be aware our Internal dialogue just as much as our external dialogue holds so much POWER
So letās get into what reframing actually means and how it can be a useful tool to help regulate your nervous system.
Reframe definition is to change the conceptual or emotional viewpoint of a situation, idea, or problem, allowing it to be seen in a new, often more positive or productive way.
You may be wondering, so how does this work? By reframing a situation, idea or thought it leverages cognitive restructuring. Which is a fancy way to say it creates a break in the cycle of negative thoughts and emotional/behavioral responses that may be dysfunctional.
By incorporating the reframe mindset it reduces stress, creates an opportunity for resilience and shifts the nervous system from a perceived threat to something that is more driven by opportunity. By practicing this regularly you are literally rewiring your brain leading to healthier and more positive outcomes.
I have always considered myself an optimistic person by default. My natural energy has always been to see the positive lesson, be the encourager and cheerleader. But something shifted when we were in the thick of sleep deprivation with a colicky baby, job loss, and a big life uproot in a move and starting all over. That default of optimism slowly grew darker and more draining and before I even recognized it I didnt respond the way I use to. And it took some time to figure out what it was along the way, working hard to shift old habits and develope new patterns.
At the end of the day there is so much more than just movement practices that can help shape the health of our nervous system and our ability to adapt to certain stressors and as a practitioner and student Iām continuing to learn and lean into what I find helpful and will share along the way. So if this is your jam or you are just curious then I hope you stick along and maybe start to explore some of these tips and tricks for yourself.
