Listen closely…you can hear it in her voice.
Fear. Excitement. Confidence.
All at once.
What may look like a simple task to most people can feel like one of the biggest milestones following ACL reconstruction.
For those who have been down this road, you understand.
This was my client’s first jump and landing since surgery. A HUGE milestone in her recovery — an even bigger one for her confidence. In that moment, she wasn’t just landing a jump, she was overcoming a fear.
And that matters.
In fact, two of the greatest predictors of reinjury and failure to return to sport after an ACL reconstruction are FEAR and LACK OF CONFIDENCE.
That’s exactly why we don’t rush the process. But we are quick to address these factors early on, and we spend a lot of time doing so.
In today’s session, we spent nearly 75% of our time preparing her body through graded exposure before she ever left the ground. Every exercise was designed to help her safely, efficiently, and confidently absorb load while systematically exposing the healing tissue, the body, and the mind to the demands of sport.
👉 That’s how you reduce fear.
👉 That’s how you build trust.
👉 That’s how you prepare an athlete to return with confidence—not just clearance.
And that’s exactly what we do every day at Uncommon Physical Therapy.
If you’re recovering from an ACL injury, don’t just get back. Get back the right way.
