I loved this idea when Wayne Morris decided to do a Scarecrow Trail! I thought and thought about what I wanted to do for Integrative OT. Naturally, I decided on the name OTis ;) and knew right where OTis would go- the Storybook Nature & Sensory Trail of course! It’s hard to pinpoint OT in just one look….we do SO MANY THINGS & wear so many hats! But here is what we settled on, so please stop by & play a game of checkers with OTis!! A year ago, I approached City Hall with an idea. An inclusive nature-based sensory & storybook trail for my beautiful city of Chelsea. They immediately said an enthusiastic YES & we set to work! Finally, a year later, the trail part is complete & we get to begin the sensory, storybook part!! If y’all have followed my account, I have posted videos of the progress and I am SO beyond excited this is coming to fruition 🙂 Thank you City of Chelsea, Alabama for partnering with Integrative OT & bringing something unique that will be played with by children of all ages for years to come!!

Something special is taking root at Melrose Park. 🌿📚

The walking trail for Chelsea’s new Storybook Trail is now complete, and we’re excited to begin the next phase of bringing this project to life.

Located in the wooded area between the Chelsea Community Center and Melrose Park Splash Pad, the trail will combine stories, interactive play, nature-based learning and plenty of opportunities for families to explore together.

We’re now working with a wonderful group of community partners to add the story stations, interactive features and educational elements that will make this trail truly special.

There’s still more to build, create and discover — and we can’t wait to share it with you this fall.

Wild Oaks Forest School family and friends! We need your help to get all of the supplies we need to welcome the wild ones through the forest doors this fall! We have a wish list of long-range walkie talkies, portable toddler potties, canvas for rain cover and cold hard cash! Please consider making a small contribution to support us in opening our doors this fall. We love you, and we are deeply grateful for all of your joy, communal dreaming, and cheering us on! ✨🦌🌳🦌✨

My children were sent home with the following options for Field Day snacks from their school: Doritos, Cheetos, or Lays chips; M&Ms, starburst, or sour straws for candy; and Sunkist, Sprite, Dr. Pepper or Coke for soda.

Y’all. This is 2026. Poppi and/or OlliPop are just as common & readily available as the Coke brands; there are 1000 different kind of chips on the grocery store shelves using better oils (like avo!) and no ultra processed ingredients or artificial dyes and even more options for better candy/sweet choices.

It doesn’t have to be a battle. Choose wisely. It does have to be intentional. I wrote to the PE coaches who put this on year after year, sending the same form as always, to educate them on other healthier options. Then I drove into town and picked up these items in the middle of my workday so that my children could have them Friday for field day.

Should I have had to do that or should the school have provided better options? That wasn’t the battle I chose to fight. Healthier options are all around us, you just have to be educated! Hopefully the coaches know better bc of my note to them, and can do better next year with offering different options. Hopefully my kids will also inform their friends they’re snacking with, that these healthier options taste the same, if not better, because they’re made with real ingredients!

I don’t choose to be mad at the system, I choose to mindfully educate in order to change the system! Be the change you wish to see ❤️🙏🏼

Wow. I am so stinking proud of this little human!! What a convincing argument for increased outside time for students, movement for growing bodies & sunshine for circadian rhythm! Goodness I am so proud of him!! Go change the world, little man!

The effects of nature on emotional, physical, spiritual & mental health are well documented. The differences that come from green spaces v. blue spaces are less prevalent, but definitely out there! If you’re interested reach out & I can send a ton of journal articles :) I also have a podcast episode on it!

The effects of grounding aka Earthing are also well documented. My children prefer to hike barefoot & I love this! I do the same, though my feet aren’t as tough as they used to be ;) I have a podcast episode explaining the benefits- feel free to find it on Apple Podcast or Spotify!

After 3 weeks of pretty intense stress, my family and I are opting outside for nature immersion in the Great Smoky Mountains :) True healing & a holistic mind-body-spirit reset can happen here ☀️🌳⛰️🌲❤️🙏🏼
