Susan’s Story💐
have the pleasure of being old. And often, as I pass the anniversary dates of being diagnosed with cancer many years ago, I must remember what it felt like being 38 at the time—with two young girls and a life ahead of possibility and adventure. A wonderful husband and an incredible community of friends supported us through thick and thin.

The diagnosis was just a year after a difficult year of rehab with our oldest daughter after an accident, and I was completely taken by surprise, as breast cancer was non-familial and not suspected. I felt betrayed by my body and struggled with finding my spiritual center. Staying hopeful and optimistic during treatment was difficult, yet my husband always cheered me along. As I struggled with hair loss, he was the voice who said, “You know, I think it’s up to us to change the industry. We need to make sure that women have more options and have someone to talk to who’s lived it. Will you help me?”

“Of course I will,” I said, not knowing that this moment was the start of something bigger than I could possibly imagine…
