Music can be so much more than something we listen to.

In music therapy, we use music intentionally to work toward functional goals like improving movement, supporting communication, strengthening memory and attention, and building social and emotional skills.

That’s what music therapy looks like at Rooted: individualized, evidence-based, and focused on goals that matter in everyday life.

Why use music in therapy?

When we engage with music, our brains are doing a lot at once. We’re processing rhythm, timing, movement, language, attention, memory, emotion, and more. Research in neurologic music therapy shows that these musical processes overlap with neural systems involved in non-musical functions, which helps explain why music can be used intentionally in rehabilitation and therapy.

That’s why a session that looks like singing, playing an instrument, or moving to a beat can work toward goals like mobility, communication, attention, memory, and coordination.

Music engages the brain, and that engagement can help create meaningful change. That’s the science behind so much of what we do at Rooted Music Therapy. 🤎
