Meet Nikki πŸ‘‹
Nikki Salmon, PT, DPT attended undergrad at Auburn University and received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Alabama State University in 2020. Nikki loves to spend all her free time outside hiking, biking, and playing sports.

She has always been interested in the role physical therapy plays in women’s health and says,
β€œWhen I first learned about pelvic physical therapy, it opened my eyes to a world of PT that I never knew existed but absolutely knew I wanted to be a part of. I love practicing in a way that allows me to put my patients first while providing one on one treatment.”

Come see Nikki at our clinic in Montgomery!

During pregnancy, the abdominal muscles can separate to make room for the growing baby. This is known as "diastasis recti". The muscles do not work efficiently when separated and this can lead to abdominal, pelvic and low back pain as well as constipation. Physical therapy exercises such as abdominal bracing can help!

πŸ‘‰ Swipe through to learn how to check for DRA and simple exercises that work to strengthen and join the muscles.

Although Urinary Urgency and Incontinence is very common, that does not mean you need to live with it!

πŸ™… Pelvic PT can help through pelvic floor muscle retraining, urge suppression techniques, and behavior modification to restore bladder function.

Our pelvic health therapists are qualified to help identify what is causing the incontinence and develop a plan to help you restore function, regain control and your confidence.

No matter what stage of life you are in, establishing an exercise program and routine that works for you can be challenging.

πŸ“† During pregnancy, we encourage our patients to prioritize frequency of exercise. The more days you can keep your body moving consistently, the better! Your goal should be to exercise 5 days a week.

⏳ Next, focus on duration of exercise. Set a goal for 20-45 minutes of active movement each day. You can also choose to break this into two sessions each day.

πŸ’ͺ Overtime as you are able to stay consistent in the frequency and duration of your exercises, you can increase the intensity of your chosen activity.

πŸ’– The most important thing is to choose a physical activity that you ENJOY! If you don’t enjoy it, you won’t keep with it.
