Big news for Cedar Ridge at Kirkwood! We are officially breaking ground this fall on Phase Three, adding seven homes to our Independent Living cottage neighborhood and introducing "The Hightower," our brand-new, three-bedroom floor plan!

There is nothing quite like the energy of our group exercise sessions! Exercise is great for the heart, but sharing the movement and laughter with neighbors makes it good for the soul. From finding the rhythm in Jazzercise to focusing on our breath in yoga, workouts at Kirkwood are all about health, joy, and community. We love seeing residents across our Kirkwood campus focusing on their health and having a blast throughout the process.

Every day, Hand in Paw’s volunteer Therapy Teams bring comfort, connection, joy, and healing to people throughout our community. At Kirkwood by the River, those visits have become a meaningful part of life for residents, staff, volunteers, and the Therapy Teams who visit them.

Tonight, we’re proud to honor Kirkwood by the River with the 2026 Tweety Lasker Award, recognizing an exceptional community partner that embraces the power of Animal-Assisted Therapy and helps make our mission possible.

It’s back-to-school week across the Birmingham area! While students and teachers head back to the classroom after a summer break, lifelong learning never stops at Kirkwood. Engaging excursions keep our brains active and energized. Residents thoughtfully teach one another their hobbies and talents. We host guest scholars, university partners, journalists, artists, politicians, and local leaders who generously share their knowledge and perspectives with us. We know that staying curious is one of the best ways to keep our minds sharp, and we are thankful for all the opportunities to learn and grow each and every day.
