After a concussion, it’s not just headaches or dizziness…

Your visual system is often affected.

If you’re dealing with:
– Trouble focusing
– Eye strain with reading/screens
– Headaches with movement
– Feeling ā€œoffā€ during sports

There’s a good chance your eyes aren’t working together the way they should.

āž”ļø Smooth pursuits = tracking movement
āž”ļø Convergence = focusing up close

When these are impaired, symptoms stick around and performance drops.

The good news: this is trainable.

We use targeted neurovisual rehab to help athletes:
āœ”ļø reduce symptoms
āœ”ļø improve focus
āœ”ļø get back to play faster

Reading and screens shouldn’t feel this hard after a concussion.

If reading, screens, or focusing for more than a few minutes triggers headaches, brain fog, eye strain, or fatigue… it may be more than ā€œjust needing rest.ā€

After concussion, the visual system is commonly affected. Things like eye tracking, how the eyes work together, and tolerance to visual load can all play a role.

The good news? These issues are often very treatable with the right rehab plan.

If reading, screens, or focus are still a struggle, there may be a reason.

Exercise isn’t the enemy after concussion.
ļæ½Wrong intensity is.

Modern rehab often includes symptom-guided aerobic exercise.

If symptoms spike every time you move, there may be a better plan.

After a concussion, some athletes notice something strange…

Reading becomes harder.
Tracking a ball feels off.
Busy environments become overwhelming.

This is often a neuro-visual dominant concussion pattern.

Your brain and eyes normally work together to track movement, stabilize vision, and process visual information quickly.

A concussion can disrupt that connection.

The good news: these systems can often be retrained with the right rehab.

Understanding the source of symptoms is one of the most important parts of recovery.

Save this post so you can recognize these symptoms after a concussion.

🧠 If concussion symptoms aren’t going away… this may be why.

Concussions can disrupt multiple systems:

When these systems haven’t fully recovered, symptoms like brain fog, headaches, dizziness, and fatigue can persist.

Are you or someone you know still getting headaches weeks (or months) after a concussion?

This isn’t something you just ā€œwait out.ā€

Persistent post-concussion headaches usually mean one or more systems didn’t fully recover and until you address the right system, the headache sticks around.

The most common causes we see:
• Neck dysfunction
• Balance (vestibular) issues
• Visual overload
• Nervous system dysregulation
• Poor load tolerance

The good news?

When you assess and rehab the right system, headaches are often very treatable even if they’ve been lingering for a long time.

At our clinic, we assess all of these systems and build individualized recovery plans for both in-person and virtual concussion rehab (so location doesn’t matter).

Most people think concussion care starts after symptoms show up.

That’s already too late.

The brain, neck, and visual system can all be trained before injury just like strength, speed, and conditioning.

When those systems are stronger:
• The hit is better tolerated
• Symptoms are often less severe
• Recovery is smoother
• Athletes return with more confidence

This isn’t about fear.
It’s about preparation.

If your athlete plays a contact sport, this is part of their training whether they realize it or not.

This NeuroMuscular Training (NMT) warm-up designed to lower concussion risk by improving how the body anticipates, absorbs, and reacts to force.

Concussion risk isn’t just about head contact.

It’s about:
āœ”ļø Poor balance & postural control
āœ”ļø Delayed reaction time
āœ”ļø Inadequate neck & trunk stability
āœ”ļø Inefficient deceleration mechanics

Research shows that athletes with better neuromuscular control, balance, and reaction timing experience fewer head impacts and reduced injury risk.

This warm-up trains:
• Balance & vestibular integration
• Reaction speed & visual processing
• Trunk & neck stability
• Body awareness during chaos

A warm-up that only raises heart rate isn’t enough.

We warm up the brain + body together.
