🎆 Happy 4th of July from Schindler & Deis Optometry! 🎆
As you celebrate this weekend, we want to remind you that fireworks can be more dangerous than they seem and eye injuries are more common than you'd think.
📊 Fireworks seriously injured close to 14,700 people in 2024, and eye injuries made up a significant share of those cases.
✅ The safest option is a professional show. If you attend one, stay at least 500 feet back and follow all posted safety instructions.
✅ Sparklers aren't as harmless as they seem. They burn at over 2,000°F, hot enough to cause serious burns.
✅ If you're using consumer fireworks at home, wear ANSI-rated eye protection, and adults should closely supervise any older kids or teens using them.
✅ Never relight a "dud." Soak it in water and throw it away instead.
🚑 If an eye injury happens: Don't rub, rinse, or apply pressure to the eye; don't try to remove anything stuck in it; don't use ointment or blood-thinning medication like aspirin. Seek emergency care right away.
