Morning Mantra: "If it's out of your hands, it should be out of your head."

The things you cannot control in life are teaching you how to let go.
Let go of the need to fix everything and everyone.
Let go of the desire to know everything about everyone.
Let go of the drama.
Let go of the negative thoughts that clutter your mind.
Let go of the need to worry about things that you cannot change.
Let go of anger, hostility, resentment, and envy.
A free mind has room to explore, expand and create and grow.

🐴 Bridging horses and heart: How equine-assisted services support youth emotional regulation. ✨
Traditional classroom or therapy environments don't always resonate with every young person. For youth who need a more targeted, alternative approach to building resilience and social-emotional skills, looking outside the box—and into the stable—can make a powerful difference.
A study evaluated a life skills training program conducted by the Equine Partnership Program (EPP), which integrates Equine Assisted Services (EAS) with Social Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies.
Why horses? Because of their unique, innate ability to mirror and respond to human emotions, horses act as a perfect bridge for experiential learning.
The study tracked 33 youth participants using the Depression, Anxiety, Pain, and Stress (DAPS) visual analog tool to see if the horse-human connection could measurably improve emotional regulation. The data revealed incredibly promising results after the intervention:
📉 Statistically significant decreases in both anxiety and depression scores. 🌱 Noticeable decreases in overall emotional pain and stress levels.
By helping youth navigate their emotions in a real-world, hands-on environment, this unique combination of equine services and social-emotional learning shows massive promise. It serves as an effective way to foster the exact resilience and pro-social skills young people need for better academic, career, and lifelong relationship success. 💛

Morning Mantra: "Live the life you want to be remembered for."

Today is a holiday about remembering. Remembering the men and women who got up in the morning and laced their boots to face an uncertain fate.
Let's remember their lives.
Lives serving others.
Lives sacrificing time with loved ones; missed holidays, missed birthdays, missed weddings, missed funerals, missed graduations, all for the greater good.

Their bravery allows us to choose the life we want to live. This Memorial Day, take time to reflect and be grateful, this day represents your freedom to live a life worth remembering.

A life of gratitude.
A life of giving.
A life of love, joy and faith.

I wrote something this week — a reflection on the dogs I have loved and lost, and the lessons each of them left behind.

Smokey taught me that unfinished goodbyes stay with us.

Midnight taught me that the ordinary moments are what we search for later.

Shamus taught me that the heart can open again.

Declan taught me that complicated bonds are still love stories.

Together, they shaped the way I see photographs — not just as images of what our pets looked like, but as a way of remembering who we were together.

And now, with Benny quietly part of my life as a medical foster, I’m reminded again:

Not someday.

Now.

Because the life we’re living with them is worth remembering.
