At RAC, NJ's leading addiction treatment offering trauma informed care, we believe that recovery looks different for everyone. Our trauma-informed approach recognizes each individual’s unique journey, creating a compassionate environment where healing can begin.

Trauma is the lasting emotional and psychological response to a deeply distressing event or series of events. Traumatic events can include childhood abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, the loss of a loved one, natural disasters, car crashes, or exposure to violence. Chronic stress from repeated or severe trauma can alter brain structure and brain development, and when trauma goes unaddressed, the brain searches for ways to cope resulting in addictions and Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Our Clinical Director, Nadine Talley, MSW, LCSW, CTSS shares: “Our treatment is grounded in helping individuals reconnect with their inherent value and use that value as a source of strength in their recovery. Because healing begins when we feel safe, seen, and valued.”

As New Jersey experiences more frequent and longer-lasting periods of extreme heat, taking care of one's physical and mental health is more important than ever. Extreme heat can contribute to psychological distress, worsening of existing mental health conditions, and increased risk of substance use and relapse. Adults aged 65+ with behavioral health conditions and chronic medical conditions are at greater risk of heat-related illness.

This month is a time to focus on the unique challenges that Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) face when it comes to mental health.

Over 60 million adults in the U.S. experienced a mental illness in the past year and over 46 million people had a substance use disorder (SUD). Only 37.9% of African American adults and 39.6% of Hispanic adults with mental illness receive treatment each year compared to the U.S. average of 50.6%. Asian American adults with mental illness are least likely to receive mental health treatment — only 36.1% of Asian adults with a mental illness received treatment in 2022.

At Recovery at the Crossroads, we believe that mental health is deeply personal, and what works for one person may not work for another. We offer flexible treatment programs designed to fit Your situation and schedule. To learn more call: 856-644-7210 or email: [email protected].

For practicing Jews, today is the Fast of 17th of the Hebrew month of Tammuz. The fast commemorates five tragic events that occurred on this date and is the start of a three-week mourning period for the destruction of Jerusalem and the two Holy Temples. It marks a time of reflection, awareness, and recognizing that healing often begins by acknowledging what has been broken.

Many individuals in the Jewish community who struggle with addiction feel shame and fear their community will shun them. At RAC, our Jewish rehab program is designed to provide a supportive and accepting environment for those seeking addiction treatment within the Jewish community. We’ve seen first-hand the positive impact that participating in religious services and activities can have. We offer three kosher meals every day and give you access to medical staff who share your beliefs as well as the option to speak with a rabbi on request.

If you or a loved one needs help now please call 856-644-7210 or email: [email protected]. Wishing you an easy and meaningful fast!

As Pride Month comes to a close, Team RAC reiterates our commitment to creating inclusive spaces where every recovery journey is met with dignity, compassion and support.

Our Clinical Director, Nadine Talley, MSW, LCSW, CTSS elaborates: "Many individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community, across all backgrounds, face a higher risk for substance use and mental health challenges. This is often connected to experiences of stigma, rejection, or internalized shame, which can impact self-worth and lead to isolation. For those raised in strict religious or conservative environments, these challenges can feel even more complex, often creating a deep tension between identity, values, and belonging."

She explains the approach at RAC: "At RAC, we begin with a simple but powerful belief: every person is inherently valuable and deserves a fulfilling life. Treatment is grounded in helping individuals reconnect with that value and use it as a source of strength in their recovery. Because healing begins when we feel safe, seen, and valued!"

About 5 out of every 100 adults (or 5%) in the U.S. has PTSD in any given year.

Our Clinical Director Nadine Talley, MSW, LCSW, CTSS explains: "We’ve come a long way in our understanding of trauma. Yet, a common misconception remains- that trauma only impacts a select few, such as those who have experienced severe abuse, neglect, war, or natural disasters. While these events are undeniably traumatic, trauma extends far beyond what we can easily see or define. It’s not about the event itself, it’s about how we experience it, and how that experience reshapes the way our brains process and respond to the world."

She adds, "Understanding this helps reduce the stigma and shame that often surrounds trauma. No one chooses how their brain responds to traumatic experiences! However, everyone deserves the opportunity to heal in a way that feels safe to them and fits their needs."

At RAC, we empower our clients to take charge of their healing journey in a supportive, compassionate environment. We offer specialized programming for individuals with trauma or dual diagnoses. These tracks are designed to address cultural, occupational, and clinical needs through targeted therapeutic support. Call us at 856-644-7210 to learn more.

Pride at RAC means creating spaces where our team and clients feel seen, valued and supported.

Our Primary Counselor Jaclyn Marone, CADC Intern, that is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community shares what Pride means to them: "Pride means finally feeling free to be myself after spending so much time wondering if I was too different, too much, or not enough. It is the courage to stand in my truth, even when the world has made that feel difficult. Pride is every tear shed in moments of fear, every battle fought in silence, and every step taken toward self-acceptance. It is the overwhelming relief of knowing that I no longer have to hide who I am to be worthy of love and belonging. Pride reminds me that my identity is not something to apologize for—it is something beautiful, powerful, and deserving of celebration. It is gratitude for those who came before me, strength for those still finding their voice, and hope for a future where everyone can live openly and authentically. Pride is more than a celebration; it is a reminder that I am here, I am enough, and I deserve to take up space exactly as I am."
