August 31st may have passed, but this conversation still matters.

Substance use, overdose, and recovery don’t belong to one awareness day - and neither does supporting moms and families navigating them.

Mothers can be dealing with pregnancy, postpartum recovery, stress, pain, mental health changes, substance use, or recovery all at the same time. Fear of being judged can make it even harder to talk about what’s really going on or reach out for support.

Our latest blog, “International Overdose Awareness Day: Moms and Families Deserve Support Without Shame,” keeps the conversation going.

We’re talking about overdose prevention, signs of an opioid overdose, naloxone, recovery, and ways moms, caregivers and families can support the people they love without shame or judgment.

Black Breastfeeding Week is a good time to give Black mothers their flowers!

Breastfeeding can be beautiful, exhausting, emotional, frustrating, joyful, or honestly, all of those things in the same day.

And while everybody may have an opinion about how you feed your baby, what Black mothers really need is support. Someone to answer the questions. A workplace that gives you the time and space to pump. A provider who actually listens. Family and caregivers who respect your choices. Access to lactation care when you need it.

This year’s Black Breastfeeding Week theme, “WE ALL WE GOT: 15 Years of Community, Care, and Collective Power," reminds us how much community matters.

So from August 25th-31st, we’re celebrating Black moms and the people supporting them through every feeding, pumping session, late night, hard day, and everything that comes with the journey.

Whatever your breastfeeding journey looks like, it belongs to you! 💜

Breastfeeding can be sweet, exhausting, confusing, painful, beautiful… sometimes all in the same day.

One minute you’re soaking in that quiet moment with your baby. The next, you’re wondering if they’re getting enough milk, washing pump parts for what feels like the hundredth time, or Googling a question at 2 AM.

And while everybody is checking on the baby, we want to make sure somebody is checking on you, too.

Our latest blog talks about the real side of breastfeeding: feeding concerns, pain, pumping, getting support from the people around you, Black Breastfeeding Week, changing feeding plans, and knowing when it’s time to reach out to a provider.

Whether you’re breastfeeding now, preparing for a baby, supporting someone postpartum, or caring for a new family, there’s something here for you.

Having a baby can bring up questions you never thought to ask before.

What should recovery after birth look like? Why does my body feel so different? When should I call my doctor? How am I supposed to get enough rest while caring for a baby?

And sometimes you simply want to hear from someone who understands what you’re going through.

The Mother, Baby, & Beyond newsletter is for mothers, caregivers, and families in Delaware. We share local events and resources, parenting tips, and conversations about pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and caring for yourself while caring for your family.

There’s a lot that comes with becoming a parent. You shouldn’t have to search all over the place to find something useful.

August is National Family Fun Month!

Summer isn’t over yet! There’s still time to get out, have some fun, and make a few memories before school schedules and fall routines kick back in.

Take the kids to the beach, cool off at a local splash pad, grab some water ice, or pack up some snacks and head to your neighborhood park.

Staying home counts, too. Have a cookout, turn on the sprinkler, make homemade sundaes, play cards, or have a family movie night where everybody gets a turn picking the movie.

Mothers and caregivers spend a lot of time planning, packing, remembering what everybody needs, and making sure everyone else has a good time. You get to enjoy the day, too.

National Family Fun Month is a good reminder that family memories don’t have to be expensive or complicated. Sometimes a free afternoon and some laughs are enough.

Motherhood comes with questions. A LOT of them. And while so much attention goes into preparing for the baby, mothers and families need real information about what happens after birth too.

Mother, Baby, & Beyond is officially on YouTube!

We’re bringing the conversations we have with mothers and families every day to a space you can come back to whenever you need them. Pregnancy. Postpartum. Maternal health. Newborn care. The changes nobody prepared you for. The warning signs families need to recognize.

We’re starting with “What Does Postpartum Really Mean?” featuring our Founder, LaToya Brathwaite.

Because postpartum doesn’t automatically mean postpartum depression. It’s the entire period after having a baby, and understanding what that really means can make a difference in how mothers are cared for and supported.

Next up, we’re talking about Postpartum Psychosis and what mothers, caregivers, and families should know.

Come learn with us. Watch the first video and subscribe to the channel: https://youtu.be/tNovddqZWwg?si=S5F3nYmBuDQ2uBg0

Pregnancy can be full of joy, while also being one of the hardest seasons of someone’s life.

Mental health challenges and substance use don’t simply disappear during pregnancy. For some mothers, the stress, fear, and pressure can make things feel even heavier. And when someone is afraid they’ll be judged for speaking up, getting care becomes that much harder.

Our newest blog post talks about why compassionate, stigma-free care matters and how partners, caregivers, families, and loved ones can support mothers through pregnancy, postpartum, and recovery.

Because mothers should be able to say, “I’m struggling,” and be met with care instead of shame.

MB&B, supported by the Grassroots Messaging and Awareness Campaign through DSAMH, is working to promote and raise awareness about the impact of opioid use disorder (OUD) and substance use disorder (SUD) on maternal health.

Last week, Mother, Baby, & Beyond was grateful to be invited to the Nemours Postpartum Party in Seaford, Delaware! It was a beautiful opportunity to spend time with mothers and families, share resources, and connect with our community.

We were honored to be there not only as a vendor, but also to provide maternal health screenings and support for families who had questions about their health after giving birth.

Our founder, LaToya Brathwaite, also led an interactive session focused on postpartum healthcare, maternal warning signs, and why building a strong village of support can make such a difference during pregnancy and after birth.

Thank you to Nemours for creating a space where mothers could learn, ask questions, and feel supported. We're thankful to have been part of such a meaningful day and look forward to continuing this work in Delaware!
