Made with apple cider vinegar, witch hazel, glycerin, and a blend of essential oils. Perfect for misting over your skin, hair, and clothing before heading outside.

Bug Repellent Serum
Made with nourishing sunflower oil and jojoba oil, plus our bug-deterring essential oil blend. I especially love the serum when I want something that stays put a little longer.

Yesterday morning started with a moment that made my heart stop.

When I first looked out at Gemini, I actually smiled because I thought she was standing there holding her feed bucket, waiting for her morning oats.

As I walked closer, I realized that wasn’t what I was seeing at all.

Somehow, the metal handle had detached from the bucket and gone completely through one of her nostrils. The bucket was literally hanging from her nose like an oversized piercing.

My husband immediately said, “Call the vet.”

Instead, I took a deep breath because if I panicked, Gemini would panic too.

I quietly talked to her, kept her as calm as I could, and after a few careful attempts, I was able to slide the handle back out without causing further injury.

Then my mind immediately went to the plants.

I gathered yarrow and plantain growing right outside. I made a strong herbal tea and used it as a warm compress. Yarrow has long been valued for supporting the body’s natural healing process, while plantain is one of my favorite herbs for soothing irritated tissue. Plantain is also traditionally valued for its drawing action, making it a wonderful herb to reach for when you want to help draw out impurities and support the body when you’re concerned about infection trying to set in.

After cleaning the wound, I applied my Rescue Salve, made with calendula, plantain, and yarrow infused into olive oil. By the end of the day, I was amazed to see the wound already beginning to granulate in and heal.

Over the next several days, I’ll continue gently cleansing it twice a day with the herbal tea and follow it with a pure comfrey salve to support the next stage of healing.

Moments like this remind me why I love herbal medicine.

The answer wasn’t in a medicine cabinet.
It was growing around me in the yard.

God designed creation with incredible wisdom. The more I learn the plants He placed around us, the more I’m reminded that we are surrounded by gifts if we simply take the time to know them.

And don’t worry… Gemini is doing well today, eating her breakfast like nothing ever happened.

I’ve been watching the rain pool on the porch this week, and instead of rushing to fill the time, I made tea.

Not because I had to. Because my body was asking for it.

And that’s the thing I keep coming back to: there’s this quiet tension between stewarding your body well and feeling like you have to keep serving everyone else first.

Summer has this way of slowing things down if we let it. The humidity, the slower mornings, the way the light lingers longer. It’s an invitation to pause and actually listen.

Your body is communicating all the time. Maybe it’s asking for rest. Maybe it’s asking for something nourishing that doesn’t come from a to-do list.

A tea ritual doesn’t have to be elaborate. It can be as simple as choosing a blend that supports what you need right now, whether that’s calm, clarity, or just a moment to sit still.

Hot or iced, it’s the same invitation: slow this down. Honor what your body is telling you. Let it be both an act of care and an act of worship.

If you’re tired of feeling like self-care is one more thing you’re failing at, stop in the shop and we will guide you in choosing the right blend for where you are right now. Let’s do this together.

There’s nothing quite like saddling up for a ride with Gemini… but summer used to make me dread it.

The mosquitoes were relentless. The deer flies seemed determined to make every ride miserable. Gemini would toss her head, swish her tail, and try to escape the flies while I spent more time swatting bugs than enjoying the trail. By the time we got home, we were both miserable.

I tried the commercial bug sprays. They worked for a little while, but the protection never lasted, the smell was overwhelming, and I wasn’t comfortable with many of the ingredients.

So I created something different.

Our Bug Spray is made with witch hazel, raw apple cider vinegar, and a thoughtful blend of essential oils to naturally discourage biting insects. For longer days outside, I reach for our Bug Serum, made with nourishing sunflower, apricot, and jojoba oils infused with essential oils that stay on the skin longer. I spray the Bug Spray on myself, my clothing, and my hair, then use the Bug Serum around Gemini’s ears—where those pesky deer flies love to attack. If I’m heading out for a long ride, I’ll use the serum on myself too because it lasts the long rides.

No harsh chemicals. No synthetic fragrances. Just thoughtfully chosen plant ingredients working the way God designed them to—supporting us as we enjoy His creation.

Now, instead of fighting bugs, I get to soak in the quiet… the rhythm of hoofbeats, the beauty of the woods, and the peace that comes from being outside with my horse.

I used to think I wasn't drinking enough water.

I'd carry my water bottle everywhere, refill it constantly, and still feel parched by afternoon. My skin was dry. My energy tanked. I thought I just needed to push harder.

Turns out, the problem wasn't the amount I was drinking. It was that my cells couldn't hold onto it.

Your body needs minerals to actually absorb and use the water you're drinking. Without them, you're just flushing hydration right through.

Here's what changed for me:

✅ I started adding a pinch of sea salt to my morning water
✅ I swapped one glass a day for nettle or oatstraw tea (both are mineral-rich and gentle). These are both in our Daily Nourish Tea along with alfalfa, hibiscus, and raspberry leaf
✅ I stopped chugging and started sipping slowly throughout the day
✅ I started eating lots of hydrating fruits

it wasn't about drinking more. It was about giving my body what it needed to actually use what I was giving it.

If you've been drinking water all day and still feel dehydrated, your cells might be asking for support, not volume.

Save this if you're ready to stop forcing hydration and start nourishing it instead.

I still remember the first time I stood in my kitchen, measuring out dried herbs with my hands shaking a little.

I didn’t know if I was doing it right. I didn’t know if it would work. But I knew I was tired of feeling dismissed every time I walked into a doctor’s office, tired of prescriptions that came with more side effects than answers.

That first blend was simple. Chamomile, lemon balm, a little lavender. I stirred it slowly, and for the first time in a long time, I felt like I was doing something kind for my body instead of just masking symptoms.

It didn’t happen overnight. But over weeks, I started sleeping better. My anxiety softened. My body felt like it was finally being heard.

Creating your own herbal tea blend isn’t about perfection. It’s about learning to listen to what your body is communicating, and responding with gentle support.

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to start with one small, intentional step.

If you’re tired of feeling overwhelmed about where to start with natural wellness, stop in and we will guide you on what herbs to use to create your tea.

There is something special about standing among a bed of Echinacea in full bloom.

Most people recognize it as a beautiful wildflower, but for generations it has also been one of North America's most respected medicinal plants.

Long before it found its way into modern herbal shops, Native American tribes used echinacea for a wide variety of concerns—from supporting the body during illness to caring for wounds, infections, insect bites, and even snake bites. They understood what many of us are rediscovering today: God placed incredible gifts in creation.

Today, echinacea is best known as an herb that supports the immune system. Rather than simply "fighting germs," it works by helping the body's own natural defenses respond when they're needed. Many herbalists reach for it at the very first signs that the body is under stress, especially during cold and flu season.

One thing I love about herbs is that they remind us our bodies were wonderfully designed. Sometimes they simply need the right nourishment and support to do what they were created to do.

This little garden bed may not look like much to some, but I see medicine, history, beauty, and God's provision all growing together.

Every summer I'm reminded why I love growing the herbs that eventually make their way into the tinctures, teas, and wellness products we create here at Lavender & Honey.

Summer adventures call for a well-stocked natural first aid kit. ☀️

One of our summer must-haves is our Rescue Salve, handcrafted right here in our apothecary to support bug bites, bee stings, scrapes, and irritated skin.

Every jar begins with herbs we grow or wild harvest on our farm:
🌿 Plantain
🌼 Calendula
🌾 Yarrow

These herbs are slowly infused into organic olive oil, then blended with pure essential oils of Lavender, Frankincense, and Helichrysum to create a soothing salve you'll want to keep close all summer long.

There's something special about knowing exactly where the herbs came from—from seed to salve, grown with intention and crafted in small batches.

Whether you're hiking, gardening, camping, or simply enjoying evenings outside, Rescue Salve is one of those products you'll be glad you tucked into your bag.

🌿 Handmade in-house.
🌿 Herbs grown or wild harvested on our farm.
🌿 Made with care for your family's everyday adventures.

I used to think the goal was to block the sun at all costs.

I used to slather on 'clean' sunscreen every single day. I thought I was doing the right thing.

But over the years I realized,
Your skin isn't just a barrier. It's communicating with you. It lets you know when you've had enough sun, when it's time to find some shade, and when it's asking for a break. That warmth, that slight pinkness, those are signals—not flaws.

I don't believe we should fear the sun.
God designed our bodies to benefit from it. We need sunshine for vitamin D and so many other important functions. Most of the time, I actually enjoy getting healthy morning and evening sun without putting anything on my skin.

So then you might be wondering...

"If you believe that, why do you sell a Sun Salve and Sun Serum?"

Because stewardship also means being wise.

I'm very fair-skinned. If I'm harvesting herbs during the hottest part of the afternoon, spending the day at the beach, or out on the boat where the sun reflects off the water and there's little to no shade, I don't just get a little pink—I can burn badly and even blister.

Those are the moments I reach for my Sun Salve or Sun Serum.

They're not something I use to hide from the sun every day. They're something I use when my body genuinely needs extra protection.

Our Sun Serum is made with nourishing raspberry seed oil, sunflower oil, jojoba oil, and non-nano zinc oxide.

Our Sun Salve contains those same ingredients with the addition of beeswax, creating a solid, easy-to-apply balm that stays on well during outdoor work, sweating, and water activities.

For me, healthy sun stewardship looks like:
☀️Enjoying morning and evening sunshine.
🌿 Building a healthy relationship with the sun instead of fearing it.
🌳 Seeking shade when possible.
👒 Wearing hats and protective clothing for long outdoor days.
🧴 Using natural mineral protection when the situation truly calls for it.

It's not about extremes. It's about honoring the incredible way God designed our bodies while using wisdom when nature demands a little extra support.

The sun isn't the enemy. Your body isn't the enemy. Learning to work with with both is where wellness begins.

07/17/2026

My summer skin secret isn't what you'd expect. ☀️

For years, I dealt with painful sunburns. Being fair-skinned, I can go from "just enjoying the sunshine" to blistered way too quickly. I tried countless expensive products, but I wanted something made with ingredients I actually trusted.

So... I made my own.

One thing that's important to me is remembering that the sun isn't the enemy. Our bodies need sunshine for vitamin D and so many other benefits. I don't believe we need to hide from it all day long.

Most days, I enjoy the morning and evening sun without any protection. But if I'm going to be outside during the hottest part of the afternoon, spending the day on the lake, or know I'll be in intense sun for hours, that's when I reach for my Sun Serum or Sun Salve.

Sun Serum Lightweight and nourishing, made with: • Raspberry Seed Oil • Sunflower Oil • Jojoba Oil • Zinc Oxide

Sun Salve The same trusted ingredients, plus our local beeswax for a solid stick that's easy to apply and helps it stay put through sweat and water—perfect for hikes, gardening, beach days, and time on the lake.

Natural sun protection doesn't have to feel heavy or full of ingredients you can't pronounce. Just simple, thoughtfully chosen ingredients that help protect your skin when you need them most.

Stop by Lavender & Honey Herbs & Wellness to check them out, and don't forget—we also have our Sun Rescue Mist ready for those days when you accidentally soak up a little more sunshine than you planned. 🌼
