Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a commonly used antihistamine, but like any medication, it's important to understand how it works and when it's appropriate to use.

Because it crosses the blood-brain barrier, diphenhydramine can cause drowsiness and, in some cases, confusion, delirium, or hallucinations, particularly in children, older adults, or when taken in higher-than-recommended doses. It's also generally not recommended for long-term daily use unless directed by your healthcare provider.

New Patient Series: Part 8

Healing is a process, not a one-time adjustment.

Your body develops compensation patterns over time, and as one area begins to function better, other imbalances may become more noticeable. That's why each visit builds on the last. By reassessing muscle function, movement, and posture at every appointment, we can tailor treatment as your body changes and progresses.

The goal isn't just temporary relief, it's helping your body move and function more efficiently over time.

Kinesiology tape is more than just something you see on athletes.

When applied with the proper technique and tension, it can help support an injured area while still allowing normal movement. It may also help reduce pressure on sensitive tissues and provide support as your body continues to recover between visits.

Treatment is never one-size-fits-all, and taping is just one of the many tools we may use when it's appropriate for the patient.

A structural exam isn't about finding as many ""problems"" as possible, it's about finding the right ones.

Throughout the exam, we use muscle testing and movement assessments to evaluate how the joints, muscles, and nervous system are working together. Changes in muscle response can help identify areas that may benefit from treatment, allowing adjustments to be more precise and individualized.

Every test has a purpose, and every finding helps guide the next step in your care.

A structural exam is about more than checking where something hurts.

By isolating individual muscles, we evaluate how well the muscles, joints, and nervous system are working together. When a muscle doesn't respond as expected, it can provide clues about underlying joint restrictions or movement patterns that may be contributing to pain.

The goal is to identify the source of the problem, not just the symptoms, so treatment can be as targeted as possible.

When it comes to cholesterol, context matters.

Rather than looking at one number in isolation, we evaluates your full health picture, including family history, stress, thyroid function, blood sugar, inflammation, and other cardiovascular markers. These pieces together provide a more complete understanding of heart health and help guide personalized recommendations.

Blood work isn't just about whether a value is "normal."

During a functional medicine visit, we review your labs alongside your symptoms to understand how your body is functioning, not just whether a result falls within a reference range. Looking at markers like ferritin, vitamin D, thyroid function, blood sugar, and inflammation helps create a more complete picture of your health and guides personalized recommendations.

Food is more than fuel, it provides valuable clues about your overall health.

During a new patient visit, we reviews eating habits, sleep, hydration, supplements, and lifestyle alongside lab work to better understand factors like blood sugar balance, inflammation, energy, and overall wellness. Every question helps build a clearer picture so recommendations can be personalized to the individual.

Every first appointment starts with a conversation. Before any treatment begins, we take the time to understand your health history, symptoms, and when they started. Looking at the whole picture, not just where it hurts, helps guide the examination and create a personalized treatment plan.
