Meet Erin. ❤️
Erin was born with Goldenhar syndrome, a complex craniofacial condition that affected the development of both sides of her lower jaw.
Two weeks ago, she underwent a major step in her reconstructive journey: bilateral mandibular reconstruction using two vascularized fibula free flaps.
Using microsurgery, bone from each fibula was carefully shaped to reconstruct her right and left mandible, restoring the foundation of her lower face and jaw.
Today, just 2 weeks after surgery, Erin is back for her postoperative visit — healing beautifully and doing very well.
This type of reconstruction is not simply about replacing missing bone. It is about creating a stable facial framework, improving symmetry and function, and building a foundation for the next stages of reconstruction.
Erin still has a journey ahead, but seeing her doing so well only two weeks after such a major operation is incredibly rewarding.
One patient.
Two fibula free flaps.
A completely reconstructed mandible.
And another major step forward. ❤️
