Endometriosis is more than painful periods.

It happens when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, often around the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or pelvic area. These growths can respond to hormonal changes each month, leading to inflammation, pelvic pain, scar tissue, and sometimes fertility challenges.

The exact cause of endometriosis is still not fully understood, but recognizing symptoms early and getting evaluated can help with diagnosis, symptom management, and long-term care.

Your baby’s position can change throughout pregnancy, especially before labor.

Common fetal positions include cephalic, where the baby is head-down; breech, where the bottom or feet are positioned first; oblique, where the baby lies at an angle; and transverse, where the baby lies sideways.

Your provider may monitor your baby’s position as your due date approaches because it can help guide pregnancy and delivery planning. Every pregnancy is different, so personalized evaluation matters.

You know Dr. Straker as your OB-GYN, but what is he like outside the exam room?

In this rapid-fire round, he chooses date night over family game night, flying over road trips, phone calls over texts, coffee over tea, mountains over the beach, sunsets over sunrises, and reading over Netflix.

Getting to know the person behind your care can make healthcare feel more comfortable, personal, and connected.

Now it’s your turn: coffee or tea? Beach or mountains? Let us know in the comments.

Did you know the pelvis can have different anatomical shapes?

The four classic pelvic types are gynecoid, android, anthropoid, and platypelloid. These shapes describe differences in pelvic anatomy, but they do not determine pregnancy or delivery outcomes on their own.

Every body is different, which is why your OB-GYN considers your full health history, pregnancy, and individual anatomy when guiding your care.

Pain during in*******se should not be something you simply learn to tolerate.

Persistent or recurring pain can be associated with conditions such as endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroids, vaginal dryness, perimenopause, vaginismus, or vulvodynia. Identifying what is causing the discomfort is the first step toward finding the right treatment and improving your quality of life.

If in*******se is consistently painful or becoming more uncomfortable, it’s time to talk with your OB-GYN and get answers.

Period blood can change in color throughout your cycle, and many variations are completely normal.

Dark brown blood often means older blood leaving the uterus, while bright or dark red blood is common during active or heavier flow. Light pink blood may appear with lighter bleeding or spotting.

Color alone does not tell the whole story. Pay attention to symptoms like bleeding longer than 7 days, soaking through a pad or tampon every hour, large clots, dizziness, severe fatigue, unusual odor, or repeated unexplained spotting.

If something feels different from your normal cycle, it’s worth getting evaluated.

IUDs or birth control pills? Epidural or natural birth? Full schedule or empty waiting room? Patients who Google everything or patients who just wing it?

It’s a quick, fun look at the preferences behind the doctor—and a reminder that every patient brings a different personality, question, and experience into the exam room.

Now it’s your turn: Do you come prepared with a full list of questions, or forget everything the second your appointment starts? Let us know in the comments.

Some pregnancy complications can develop early and require prompt medical attention.

Molar pregnancy involves abnormal placental tissue growth, ectopic pregnancy occurs when a pregnancy implants outside the uterus, and choriocarcinoma is a rare pregnancy-related cancer that can develop from gestational tissue.

Symptoms such as unusual bleeding, severe pelvic or abdominal pain, dizziness, or concerning changes after a positive pregnancy test should never be ignored. Early evaluation can make an important difference in diagnosis, treatment, and your overall health.
