What is andropause? It is men's “midlife hormone shift".
Andropause is often called “male menopause,” but it’s less talked about and poorly understood. Unlike a sudden switch, it’s a gradual shift in male hormones—especially declining testosterone—typically beginning in midlife.
If most acupuncture clinic visitors are women, it’s not because men don’t struggle; it’s because men’s health beyond muscle, looks, and libido is still treated like a taboo. That silence keeps symptoms hidden and help delayed.
Nature doesn’t draw a hard line between female and male life cycles. Everyone moves through birth, growth, maturity, and aging—hormones included.
What changes can men feel?
Body and energy: fatigue, reduced muscle mass, increased body fat, slower recovery.
Mood and mind: low motivation, irritability, brain fog, low mood or depression, sleep issues.
Vital signs: reduced libido, erectile changes, urinary symptoms, bone density shifts (yes, osteoporosis can affect men).
This mirrors what many women experience in peri- and post-menopause—different biology, similar life-stage turbulence.
When men realize these shifts are common and connected, they’re more likely to seek effective care instead of “toughing it out.”
A note from our clinic:
In Chinese medicine, practitioners may address imbalances commonly seen in andropause by harmonizing the Water, Wood, and Earth elements and their related meridians. This approach is individualized and often paired with lifestyle guidance and Chinese herbal medicine to support whole‑system balance.
A simple next step. If these signs feel familiar, reach out to our office. We would be happy to go over your health history and tailor a treatment plan to your Chinese medicine diagnosis.
