Does your neck really need more stretching?

Maybe.

But maybe not.

One of the biggest misconceptions we see is that muscles always feel tight because they're "too short."

Sometimes they're actually working overtime because another area of your body isn't moving or supporting you well.

Instead of asking:

"What should I stretch?"

Try asking:

✔️ What was I doing when my neck became tight?
✔️ Does changing positions help?
✔️ Does it happen every time I do that activity?

Those patterns can tell us a lot about what's contributing to your symptoms.

We'll be discussing this and more at our Neck & Shoulder Relief Workshop on August 10.

This week was a big milestone for our Walk to Run group—we completed our 5K simulation! 🎉🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Over the past several weeks, everyone has put in the work, stayed consistent, and built their endurance one step at a time. This week’s simulation was a chance to put that training to the test and see just how far they’ve come.

Whether you ran the entire distance or mixed in some walk breaks, crossing that 5K mark is something to be proud of. The progress we’ve seen from week one has been incredible, and everyone should take a moment to celebrate how much stronger and more confident they’ve become.

We can’t wait to see everyone crush the official 5K together. 💪

Why do we ask so many questions during your evaluation?

Because where your pain hurts is only part of the story.

We're just as interested in what movements make your pain worse—and what makes it feel better.

Does your back hurt after sitting but feel better after walking?

Does reaching overhead bother your shoulder, but carrying groceries doesn't?

Those patterns give us important clues about why you're hurting and help us create a treatment plan that's specific to you.

Here's something to pay attention to this week:

✔️ What movement makes your pain worse?
✔️ What movement makes it feel better?
✔️ Can you repeat that pattern consistently?

The answers often tell us much more than simply rating your pain from 1–10.

If you're dealing with back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, headaches, or another musculoskeletal problem, we'd be happy to help you figure out what's really causing it.

🏃‍♀️ Walk to Run: Breathing & Mental Strategies

This week's class focused on something many new runners don't think about—your breathing and mindset.

One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is running faster than they can comfortably maintain.

When your heart rate gets too high, your breathing becomes difficult to control, making the run feel much harder than it needs to.

🫁 This week's takeaway:
Run at a pace where you can control your breathing.

If you're gasping for air, slow your pace. Controlled breathing usually means you're running at an effort you can sustain, helping you build endurance and enjoy your runs more.

We also talked about mental strategies that can make running feel easier:

✔ Focus on one interval at a time.
✔ Don't worry about your total distance.
✔ Celebrate small improvements each week.

Great job to everyone who joined us this week!

Every class brings us one step closer to our 5K goal.

Is Your IT Band Really the Problem?

This week alone, I evaluated several patients who came in convinced they had a "tight IT band."

What surprised them most?

In many cases, the IT band wasn't the primary problem.

Pain along the outside of the hip or knee is often influenced by how the hip, pelvis, and lower back are moving. That's why simply stretching or foam rolling the IT band doesn't always provide lasting relief.

Instead of asking, "Where does it hurt?" we ask:

"Why is it hurting?"

That answer helps determine whether you would benefit most from improving mobility, building strength, changing movement patterns, chiropractic care, rehabilitation, shockwave therapy, or a combination of approaches.

Because the right treatment starts with the right evaluation.

If pain along the outside of your hip or knee is limiting your walking, running, golfing, or workouts, we'd love to help.

Today’s Walk-to-Run topic was strength for runners 💪🏃‍♀️

We talked about why strength training matters for runners, how it can help improve running form and efficiency, and how building a stronger foundation may help reduce the risk of injury as mileage increases.

Big thank you to Lynne from CrossFit Roselle for joining us and sharing her knowledge with the group!

Great job to everyone who showed up and kept progressing tonight!
