As veterinarians, people often think we do not know what they are feeling or that we have become immune to some feelings because we encounter them daily. Today, I am facing all of the feelings and emotions of knowing that today is the last day with my beloved kitty, Sheba. I got Sheba 18.5 years ago, while doing an externship during veterinary school. She’s an ‘ol Claxton kitty. Sheba has been the best cat. She has always acted more like a dog than a cat. She loves affection, being brushed, temptations treats and delectables. She would never be too far from my babies and didn’t swat or scratch them. She lived some of her years at the veterinary clinics where I worked. She lived in claxton, black creek, and godley station. She stood guard and didn’t take any sideways business from other cats, even chasing one right up the wall! She loved stealing yogurt from our desks and dipping her nose and paws in the cytology stain. We would come in to find a purple nosed sheba and cute little paw prints everywhere. She liked sampling other cat carriers, just for feel. Sheba was never sick. At Adelyn’s third birthday request 🎂, she came home to live with us. We didnt think she would like housecat life, but she loved it! In 2020, she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and she had I131 treatment at The University of Florida. She did great and rolled right on. In 2025, she was diagnosed with an adrenal tumor and had an adrenalectomy, but did well for a year afterwards.She has loved us so well. We will miss her so much. There will never be another. Bye, Sheebie ♥️
