Getting help for drug or alcohol addiction or mental health concerns can come with a lot of questions. How does admission work? Will insurance cover treatment? What if you need help getting there?

At Indiana Center for Recovery in Mishawaka, Indiana, our team can help you work through those questions before you make a decision.

Here's what you should know about getting started:
Treatment options: Whether you're looking for alcohol or drug detox, residential addiction treatment, or mental health care, our team can talk through your needs and help determine an appropriate level of care.

Insurance: We accept many insurance plans, and coverage may pay for most or all of your treatment. Our team can check your benefits for free and explain what your plan covers.

Transportation: Getting to treatment shouldn't be another thing you have to figure out on your own. We can help arrange transportation to our facility.

You don't need to have everything figured out before calling. Even if you're reaching out for someone you love, you can ask questions, understand your options, and find out what getting started would look like.

👋 Meet Dr. Michael Kane, MD, ABPN, Chief Medical Officer at Indiana Center for Recovery.

With more than 35 years in healthcare, Dr. Kane has played a major role in shaping how ICFR approaches addiction treatment, mental health care, and complex psychiatric needs across Indiana.

What we appreciate most about Dr. Kane is the way he thinks about treatment.

As he puts it, “Detox is not a one-size-fits-all solution.”

No two people come into treatment with the same history. Substance use, physical health, mental health, medications, past treatment, and what has or hasn’t worked before can all affect the next step.

Dr. Kane’s focus is on understanding that full picture and helping determine the approach that makes the most sense for each individual that walks through our doors.

His expertise also reaches well beyond our treatment centers. Dr. Kane regularly shares his perspective on addiction, psychiatry, trauma, mental health treatment, and recovery, with insights featured in national media including Newsweek, PsychCentral, MSN, and DailyMail.

💼 Experience & Leadership
35+ years practicing psychiatry
Chief Medical Officer of Indiana Center for Recovery
Helped lead ICFR’s expansion from 1 to 10 facilities
Provides medical oversight across addiction and mental health treatment
Regularly contributes his expertise to our educational content and public conversations about behavioral health

🎓 Education & Credentials
Indiana University School of Medicine
Residency training in Psychiatry and Family Medicine
Board-certified Psychiatrist
Previously maintained dual board certification in Psychiatry and Family Medicine for 20 years

What can one year of sobriety actually change?

For one Indiana Center for Recovery alum, it meant getting his job, his health, and his family back. He entered treatment after losing his job and coming close to losing everything else.

At Indiana Center for Recovery, he found a program where the staff genuinely cared and knew each person's story, so a group setting still felt one-on-one. He calls it the best decision he ever made.

One year later, he has worked his way back into the management position he lost, is down 105 pounds, and has a great relationship with his wife and family. He had to start from the bottom to get there.

Every recovery looks different, and this is one person's experience.

Postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis are not the same thing. 🧠

One is common and serious. The other is rare and an emergency.

Our Chief Medical Officer broke down what families should watch for:
✔️ It comes on fast, often within days of birth
✔️ Delusions, hallucinations, severe confusion
✔️ No sleep, even when exhausted
✔️ Symptoms come and go, so someone may seem fine on some days
That last one is why families miss it. 💙

It's treatable. Most people recover fully. But it needs care the same day, not next week.

Thank you Louise Pieterse at Bored Panda for covering this story.

Lindsay Clancy didn’t ask to become a martyr, a symbol, or a cause. Yet, internet sleuths and people with loud opinions made her one. But who are we really doing a favor here? A woman looking to be absolved, or our own hunger and need for rationality?. Crime, Society
