🌿THANKFUL THURSDAY | Listen to Your Body 🌿

This review couldn't have come at a better time.

September is Pain Awareness Month, and all month we're talking about one simple idea:

Pain is information—not always the source.

And this client explained exactly what that can look like in the treatment room. 💗

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Amazing! I’ve had several injuries and pain over the years from running and CrossFit. Kristina always finds the right areas to work on and I walk out feeling so much better!

She takes the time to listen to what’s been going on before starting the massage, assesses the situation with different techniques and often finds areas I didn’t realize were in need of attention.

Then, she does something magical to fix what’s causing the pain. She loves what she does and really cares about helping her clients.”

I wish I could claim magic—but what this client is describing is something I care deeply about:

Looking beyond where it hurts.

My PTA brain is always working alongside my massage therapist hands.

I'm listening to what you're telling me.

I'm watching how your body moves.

I'm feeling what the tissue is telling me.

I'm looking for compensation patterns.

And sometimes the area we discover needs attention isn't an area you even knew was involved.

That's the part of this work that keeps my wheels turning.

Your body is incredibly connected. When one area isn't moving or functioning the way we'd like, another area may start working harder to compensate.

Eventually, that compensation can get our attention.

Sometimes through tightness.

Sometimes through decreased movement.

And sometimes through pain.

So when you point to an area and say, “It hurts right here,” I'm absolutely listening.

I'm just not going to assume that's where our investigation should end. 😉

🌿 Listen to Your Body September

Pain is information—not always the source.

And apparently... every once in a while, we add a little magic. ✨😂

Thank you for trusting me with your care—and for taking the time to share your experience. Reviews like this mean more than you know. 💗

Rest. Restore. Renew.

🎶 TUNE-IN TUESDAY | Sound Reflection

Have you ever noticed that certain sounds can change how you feel almost instantly?

The sound of waves rolling onto shore. 🌊
Rain hitting the window. 🌧️
Birds outside in the morning.
A crackling fire. 🔥
A song that takes you back to a moment you thought you had forgotten.

Sometimes we hear a sound and, before we've even had time to think about it, our body responds.

Our breathing changes.

Our shoulders soften.

Our mind gets a little quieter.

Or maybe a certain song gives us goosebumps, brings tears to our eyes, or makes us want to move.

Sound isn't something we only hear. It's something we experience.

And that's one of the reasons I've become so fascinated with sound, vibration, and frequency—and how they can be incorporated into a space intentionally created for stillness and relaxation.

As we get closer to opening the Sound Lounge at Renew Wellness, I'm going to keep sharing little pieces of the why behind this experience. 🎶✨

But today, I want to hear from YOU.

💭 What sound instantly makes you feel at peace?

Is it the ocean?
Rain?
Wind through the trees?
A certain instrument?
A favorite song?
Someone's voice?

👇 Tell me in the comments.

You might be surprised by how much your answer tells you about what helps your body feel safe enough to simply… let go. 🌿

Tune in. Slow down. Listen.

Sometimes wellness begins with noticing what your body has been responding to all along. 💗

🌿 HELLO, SEPTEMBER | LISTEN TO YOUR BODY🌿

September is Pain Awareness Month, and this month at Renew Wellness we're going to talk about something I see every single day:

Pain is information—but it isn't always the source.

When something hurts, our first instinct is usually to focus on that spot.

My shoulder hurts → work on the shoulder.
My knee hurts → work on the knee.
My neck hurts → work on the neck.

But the body doesn't always work that way.

Sometimes the painful area is the one that's been working overtime because something somewhere else isn't doing its job.

Sometimes we need to look at movement.

Sometimes fascia.

Sometimes old injuries or compensation patterns.

And sometimes we need to consider something we don't talk about nearly enough…

🧠The nervous system.

So throughout September, we're going to LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. 💗

We'll talk about pain, movement, compensation, inflammation, recovery, the nervous system and why I don't automatically begin treatment exactly where you tell me it hurts.

But September has another layer at Renew Wellness. 🎶✨

After months of talking about sound, vibration, frequency and stillness…

🎶 THE SOUND LOUNGE IS OFFICIALLY LAUNCHING! 🎉

And we're celebrating TWICE.

💗 Celebration #1 — Our VIP Sound Lounge Launch

A special, intimate experience created for a small group to be among the first to officially experience the Sound Lounge at Renew Wellness.

Details are coming VERY soon. 🎁🎶

Celebration #2 — A Sound Lounge Day Celebration

This one is still being created behind the scenes, but I'm planning a daytime opportunity for even more of you to come in, see the space, experience what I've been talking about and discover what the Sound Lounge is all about.

More details to come!

And there's a reason all of this feels so fitting for September.

Because listening to your body isn't only about noticing pain.

It's noticing tension.

Your breathing.

Your energy.

Your movement.

The moments your body feels guarded…

and the moments it finally feels safe enough to soften.

Massage. Movement. Light. Frequency. Sound. Vibration. Stillness.

They're different tools—but they all give us another opportunity to listen.

🌿 September at Renew Wellness:

Listen to Your Body.
Pain is information—not always the source.

And this month, we may discover that sometimes the first thing your body needs isn't for us to do more…

It's an opportunity to become still enough to hear what it's been trying to tell you. 💗

Welcome to September.

And welcome to a whole new chapter at Renew Wellness. 🎶🌿

🎙️ SUNDAY AT RENEW | Why the Sound Lounge Became Part of Renew

This one didn’t start with a sales pitch.

It started with research, curiosity…and a road trip to Iowa.

Before I ever considered bringing the Vibrosonic Sound Lounge into Renew Wellness, I needed to experience it myself.

Because that’s how I operate.

I can read the research.
I can take the continuing education.
I can listen to what other practitioners are saying.

But if I’m going to bring something into this space and ask you to trust it as part of your wellness journey, I want to understand what that experience actually feels like.

So I went to Iowa and climbed onto the Sound Lounge myself.

And when my session ended…

I was speechless.🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve experienced counseling.
I’ve experienced different forms of energy work.
I’ve done a LOT of work on myself over the years.

But this felt different.

The combination of 🎶sound, frequency and physical vibration🎶gave me an opportunity to become quiet in a way I wasn’t expecting.

My mind slowed down.

My body softened.

And emotionally, something shifted.

It wasn’t about someone doing something to me.

It was about being given a space where I could simply 🙌let go and allow my nervous system to settle.

And THAT is when I knew there was a place for this at Renew.

🌿 Because wellness has layers.

Massage may be one layer.

Movement may be another.

Infrared light therapy may be another.

Breathwork, hydration, sleep, nutrition, counseling, energy work, stillness, sound…

They can all become pieces of a much bigger wellness picture.

We already use this philosophy with our 🔥Low Level Light Therapy🔥, where different light settings can be selected based on the area we're supporting and whether we're working with more acute or longstanding concerns. Light therapy can also be layered into massage sessions when appropriate.

Research into photobiomodulation continues to explore its potential role in pain and inflammation, although results vary depending on the condition and treatment parameters.

Now the Sound Lounge gives us another tool.

Sound you can hear.

Vibration you can physically feel.

And 22 minutes where there is absolutely nothing you need to accomplish.

For some clients, it may simply be a beautiful way to relax.

For others, it may become another piece of their nervous-system and recovery routine.

And for someone else?

It may create an opportunity to go a little deeper into their own health and wellness journey.

That is exactly why I brought it here.

I don't want Renew Wellness to be a place where you simply come because something hurts.

I want it to be a place where you're given different tools, different experiences and different opportunities to discover what helps YOU feel your best.

Because sometimes healing isn't about doing more.

Sometimes it's about finally becoming still enough to listen. 🤍

✨FREQUENCY FRIDAY✨️

Sometimes the best option isn't the one you called for.

Recently, I received a call from someone who had found me online.

She was looking for 🙌massage💪 and she was desperate to get in.

Her neck pain had become so intense that she rated it a 9/10, and her physician at Northwestern had discussed a nerve ablation procedure with her.

She was scared about what was ahead.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a massage opening for her until September.

But instead of simply saying, *"I'm booked,"* I started asking questions.

What was she experiencing?

Where was her pain?

What had already been tried?

What was coming next?

And after talking with her, I felt there was another option at Renew that could potentially support her while she navigated her care:

❤️ Low-Level Light Therapy.

So that's where we started.

After her first session, she reported that her pain had decreased from a 9/10 to a 3/10.

She returned for her second session.

And then I received a phone call I wasn't expecting.

She told me she was feeling so much better that she had decided to cancel her scheduled procedure.

Now, I want to be VERY clear about something:

✨️I did not tell her to cancel her procedure.

Decisions about medical procedures belong between a patient and their medical provider.

But her experience is worth sharing because it reminds me why having different tools available matters.

Low-level light therapy isn't massage.

There isn't always a need for hands-on work.

And sometimes the modality someone originally calls asking for isn't necessarily where we start.

Low-level light therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissue at the cellular level. Research suggests photobiomodulation may help support processes involved in pain and inflammation, although results vary and it isn't appropriate to promise the same outcome for everyone.

For this client, it became another tool in her wellness toolbox—and we're only 2 sessions into her 6-session series.🌿

✨ LOW-LEVEL LIGHT THERAPY PACKAGE

6 sessions | $165
A $15 savings

Designed as a series to support:

🌿 Pain management
🌿 The body's inflammatory response
🌿 Circulation and cellular energy
🌿 Relaxation and nervous-system downregulation

And yes—we have programs that can be used around the jaw, neck and surrounding areas, which ties beautifully into what we've been talking about this week.

Tuesday we 🎶tuned in🎶 to what the body is telling us.

Wednesday we looked at the jaw through a whole-body lens.

And today?

We're talking about another tool that may help us support what the body is asking for.

Because at Renew Wellness, the goal isn't to automatically reach for the same tool every time.

It's to listen first.

Then decide what makes sense for you. 🌿

🎶 FREQUENCY FRIDAY | What Concert Changed Your Life?🎶

Think about the best concert you’ve ever been to.

Can you remember how it felt?

The lights go down.

The crowd gets louder.

Then those first few notes hit…

And suddenly you’re not thinking about work, your to-do list, what happened yesterday, or what you have to do tomorrow.

*lYou’re just THERE. 🎶

Maybe you screamed every word.

Maybe you danced until your legs hurt.

Maybe you got goosebumps when they played that song.

Or maybe you stood completely still because the music hit something in you that you weren’t expecting.

That’s what I love about music.

Sometimes we don’t just hear it.

We feel it.

The bass in your chest.
The vibration beneath your feet.
The emotion attached to a lyric.
The memory connected to a song.

And sometimes, years later, hearing that same song can take you right back to that exact moment. ❤️

So for this *🎶Frequency Friday🎶, I want to know:

🎤 What concert changed your life—or is one you'll NEVER forget?

Who did you see? Where were you? And what made that concert so special?

👇 Tell me in the comments!

And if you have a concert you’re still DREAMING of seeing, I want to hear that one too. 🎸🎶

🎶 FREQUENCY FRIDAY | What’s Your Comfort Song?🎶

You know that song.

The one you turn on when you’ve had a day.

The one that somehow makes the drive home feel a little easier.

The one that takes you back to a person, a place, or a moment you’d give anything to experience one more time.

Maybe it makes you cry.

Maybe it makes you dance around the kitchen.

Maybe the first few notes are enough to make your whole body go…

“Ahhh. There it is.”❤️

That’s one of the things I find so fascinating about sound.

We don’t just 🙌hear🙌 music.

We experience it.

A familiar song can bring back memories, shift our mood, change our breathing, or help us feel connected when we need it most.

So today, I’m not giving you a wellness tip.

🎶I want YOUR song.🎶

👇 Drop your 🎵comfort song🎵in the comments — the song you reach for when your mind, body, or soul needs a little something.

No judgment on the genre either. 😂
Country, rock, worship, 80s, 90s, classical, heavy metal…

If it works for you, it belongs here.

I may even build a 🎵Renew Wellness Comfort Playlist🎵 from your answers. 🎧💗

WHOLE-BODY WEDNESDAY | What Is Your Jaw Holding?

Have you ever caught yourself clenching your teeth when you're frustrated?

💀Maybe your jaw tightens during a stressful conversation.
🦷Your teeth are clenched while you're concentrating.
😴Or you wake up in the morning and realize you've been grinding during the night.

We often hear people say that we “hold anger in the jaw.”

While your jaw doesn't literally store an emotion, there is an interesting connection.

Stress, frustration, anger and emotional tension can all show up physically—and for some people, the jaw is one of the first places they notice it.

But here's where the whole-body part comes in...

Your jaw doesn't exist by itself.

Jaw tension can travel into the:

🌿 Neck
🌿 Temples
🌿 Face
🌿 Shoulders
🌿 Upper back

And tension elsewhere can influence how the jaw feels, too.

That's why when someone comes to Renew Wellness complaining about a tight jaw, I don't automatically look at just the jaw.

🤔I want to know:

Are your shoulders living up by your ears?

Is your neck tight?

Are you clenching during the day without realizing it?

How are you sleeping?

What has your stress level looked like lately?

Are there other areas of your body compensating?

✨This is exactly why I created the Jaw Reset.✨️

It's not simply a few minutes of work around your jaw.

It's intentional time devoted to the areas that may be contributing to that feeling of tension—using hands-on bodywork and supportive techniques to help you slow down, soften and give those overworked muscles a chance to let go.

Sometimes the most important thing we can do is stop asking:

“Where does it hurt?”

…and start asking:

“What else is connected to it?”

That's what Whole-Body Wednesday is all about.

Your body is connected. Let's start treating it that way.

🎶TUNE-IN TUESDAY🎶

What is your body trying to tell you?

We are really good at noticing when something hurts.

But what about everything your body was saying before it got your attention with pain?

Maybe you've noticed...

Your jaw is clenched while you're answering emails.

Your shoulders seem to live somewhere near your ears.

You're taking little shallow breaths instead of full ones.

You're exhausted...but somehow can't settle down at night.

Your hips feel tighter than they used to.

Your digestion has been a little off.

You're getting headaches more often.

You're feeling puffy, sluggish or just off.

Those little things can be easy to brush aside.

"I'm just stressed."

"I didn't sleep well."

"I need to drink more water."

"I'm getting older."

And sometimes, yes, it really can be that simple.

But sometimes those little signals are your body's way of asking you to pay attention.

That's what Tune-In Tuesday is going to be about.

Not diagnosing yourself.

Not becoming afraid of every ache, tight muscle or tired day.

Simply becoming more aware.

🩷 What am I noticing?

🌿 When does it happen?

🩷 What makes it better?

🌿 What makes it worse?

🩷 Has something changed recently?

Because the more you learn to tune into your body, the easier it becomes to recognize patterns.

And those patterns can give us valuable information when we're trying to figure out what your body might need.

So here's your first Tune-In Tuesday challenge:

Take 30 seconds right now.

Unclench your jaw.

Drop your shoulders.

Take one slow breath.

And ask yourself...

"What has my body been trying to tell me lately that I've been too busy to notice?"

You don't have to fix it today.

Just notice it.

That's where body awareness begins. 🌿

🌿 SUNDAY AT RENEW

Why I Don't Automatically Work Where It Hurts

You come in and tell me your shoulder hurts.

So naturally, I'm going to work on your shoulder...right?

Maybe. But maybe not.

One of the biggest things I've learned throughout my career is that where you feel the pain isn't always where the problem started.

I was a Physical Therapist Assistant before I became a Massage Therapist.

And honestly, that order matters.

My PTA background taught me to look at movement, compensation, strength, mobility and how different areas of the body influence one another.

Massage therapy gave me another set of hands—and another way to listen to the body.

Then came continuing education.

Cupping. Fascia. Myofascial techniques. Myoskeletal work. NKT concepts. Light therapy. Microcurrent. Lymphatics. Nervous system work. Mobility.

And with every class, my wheels start spinning again. 🧠

I rarely walk away from a course thinking:

*"I'm going to do this exact technique on everyone."*

Instead, I usually take one or two pieces and add them to the bigger picture.

Because every person walking through my door brings me a different puzzle.

Your knee may hurt because your hip isn't doing its share.

Your shoulder may be complaining because of what's happening through your neck, ribs or upper back.

That nagging spot that keeps coming back?

Sometimes constantly chasing that spot is exactly why we aren't getting anywhere.

So when you tell me where it hurts, I absolutely listen.

But then I start asking questions.

🤔How are you moving?
😒What's tight?
🙈What's not moving enough?
🤷🏼‍♀️What's doing too much?
😳What's doing too little?
🙃What changed?
🧐And what might we be missing?

Sometimes the answer is simple.

Sometimes we need a little more time to peel back the layers.

That's actually part of why I created Rooted Renewal.

Three sessions give us the opportunity to assess, work, reassess and see how your body responds—rather than trying to solve a years-old pattern in one appointment.

And sometimes?

We discover that the place screaming the loudest was never the place that needed the most attention.

🌿 That's the difference between chasing pain and getting curious about why it's there.

Around here, I'm always going to stay curious.
