Kenisha Ama'anii grew up in the mountains of Jamaica not knowing what massage therapy was.
Today she runs one of the Twin Cities' most intentional wellness practices, and she says spirit put her exactly where she needed to be.

Ama'anii is the founder of Amuure Holistic Healing in Bloomington, a practice with nearly two decades of experience behind it, rooted in a trauma-centered approach that centers the client's voice and treats massage as what it truly is: health care.

Her practice offers deep tissue massage, myofascial release, ashiatsu, mat skeletal muscular alignment and oncology massage for clients navigating cancer treatment.

For Ama'anii, serving the Black community is a particular calling. Black people, she said, often carry chronic stress in their bodies without realizing it, and massage can help bring that to the surface and release it.

"We walk around with our shoulders up to our ears because we have to fight the world," she said. "Massage is not just a luxury thing. It's really health care. It's mental health care."
