When I'm not geeking out over brain science, qEEG, or emerging modalities like PEMF and photobiomodulation, you might find me longing to be at an IU football game, underwater with my SCUBA gear, or traveling. I've been married for 35 years and my family keeps me grounded β€” including two accomplished adult kiddos and two very opinionated dogs - a Lab and a Bernedoodle.

πŸ”₯ Introducing: Your Well-Tended Flame

Ever feel wired and exhausted at the same time? Like your nervous system is either running too hot or completely shut down β€” and you can't find the middle?

I built something for that.

Your Well-Tended Flame is a 46-page nervous system workbook made for the wired, tired, and overwhelmed β€” with a real 4-week protocol tailored to your specific pattern (not a one-size-fits-all checklist).

Inside:
βœ… A quick self-assessment to find your pattern
βœ… A 4-week guided protocol, personalized to it
βœ… Hands-on practices you actually do β€” mandalas, paper airplanes, a build-your-own "State Dial," and more
βœ… Daily trackers so you can watch your own progress
βœ… Written by a licensed clinician with 30+ years of experience β€” not a wellness influencer

This isn't another "just breathe" checklist. It's built on what's actually happening in a dysregulated nervous system β€” and how to bring it back to center.

Neurofeedback is the most helpful approach for regulating trauma responses I've seen in my 30+ years of mental health practice . If you are dealing with the remnants of trauma and want more information - give me a call. 812-668-6220.

What does the research actually show about neurofeedback and PTSD?
A systematic review and meta-analysis in Frontiers in Neuroscience analyzed the current evidence for
neurofeedback in PTSD treatment. The findings span symptom reduction, neurophysiological change, and
outcomes in treatment-resistant populations β€” including refugees with chronic PTSD who had not responded
to prior interventions.
The data points to something the neuroregulation field has long understood: when trauma disrupts the brain’s
regulatory systems, regulating the brain directly is a logical intervention target.

For the millions of people managing anxiety, medication is often the first option presented. But it is not the only one.

Neurofeedback training has been shown to increase alpha wave activity in the brain, which is associated with calm, relaxed states, while reducing the excessive beta activity linked to hyperarousal and worry.

In other words, it teaches your brain to operate differently. Not by suppressing symptoms, but by strengthening the neural patterns associated with calm.

Researchers have also found that neurofeedback combined with cognitive training produces superior results for brain fog, with significant improvements in working memory, attention, and mental clarity.

If you have been looking for a drug-free approach to managing anxiety, neurofeedback is worth exploring.

If you or someone you love lives with PTSD, there is real reason for hope.

A 2025 meta-analysis of 17 clinical trials found that neurofeedback produced a 79% remission rate in participants with post-traumatic stress disorder. That compares to just 24% in control groups.

Neurofeedback works by helping the brain restore its own regulatory patterns. For trauma survivors, that means the overactive threat response gradually calms, emotional regulation improves, and symptoms like hypervigilance and flashbacks become less intrusive.

This is not about forgetting what happened. It is about giving your brain the tools to process it differently.

Considering neurofeedback? Here are a few questions worth asking before you choose a provider.

What specific training do they have in neurofeedback? A general therapy or medical license does not automatically include neurofeedback competency.

Do they use a quantitative EEG assessment before beginning treatment? Individualized protocols tend to produce better outcomes than one-size-fits-all approaches.

Are they a member of a professional organization like ISNR? Membership in the International Society for Neuroregulation and Research reflects a commitment to evidence-based practice and ongoing professional development.

The right provider makes a real difference in your results. Start your search at the ISNR provider directory: isnr.org.

Elite athletes don't just train their bodies. They train their brains.

A 2025 meta-analysis published in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports found that neurofeedback produces large performance gains across elite athletic populations. The effect size of 1.26 is considered large by research standards.

The biggest improvements showed up in precision sports, including golf, shooting, sprinting, and balance. Athletes who trained with neurofeedback showed measurable gains in attention, reaction time, coordination, and competition anxiety management.

When the difference between winning and losing is measured in milliseconds or millimeters, brain training isn't optional. It's the edge.

Whether you're an elite competitor or someone who wants sharper focus and faster reactions, neurofeedback can help. Find a practitioner at isnr.org.

TIME Magazine is asking the question: Is brain health the next healthcare frontier?

The Salk Institute has declared 2026 its "Year of Brain Health Research." Mass General Brigham has published its neuroscience predictions for the year. The conversation about proactive brain health is going mainstream.

For ISNR and the neuroregulation community, this isn't new. Our members have been advancing the science and practice of brain health for over three decades through neurofeedback, neuromodulation, and applied neuroscience research.

The world is catching up to what this community has always known: taking care of your brain is just as important as taking care of your heart. And the tools to do it already exist.

Neurofeedback is showing real promise for individuals with autism spectrum disorder.

A new comprehensive research review examines the evidence and finds improvements in:
- Social communication
- Emotional regulation
- Inhibitory control
- Attention and processing speed
- Working memory

Neurofeedback helps by training the brain to self-regulate through real-time EEG feedback, targeting the prefrontal regions involved in executive function and social cognition.

For families seeking noninvasive, drug-free approaches, this is meaningful progress. And the field is advancing fast. Emerging hybrid protocols now combine neurofeedback with other neuromodulation techniques and AI-driven personalization.

Some people tell us they're scared to try neurofeedback β€” worried it might be something like electroshock therapy from decades past. We hear this sometimes, and it's a completely understandable concern. πŸ’™ The truth is, they have nothing in common. With Neurofeedback nothing goes into your brain. Sensors simply read your brain's existing electrical activity β€” the same way a heart monitor reads your heart. The sensors provide information back to your brain so your brain can learn to self-regulate. It's non-invasive, painless, and has decades of research behind it. Curious what a session actually looks like? We'd love to show you. πŸ‘‰
