I know it’s only June, but school will be here before we know it.

The start of a new school year can bring excitement, but it can also bring stress.

As summer continues, it may be worth paying attention if your child is:

• Frequently worried about school, friends, or routines
• Having more emotional outbursts than usual
• Struggling with sleep, transitions, or independence

You don’t have to wait until school starts (or until things get worse) to seek support.

Starting counseling before the school year begins can help children build confidence, practice coping skills, and create a smoother transition into the classroom.

After school appointments are already beginning to fill, so if you’ve been considering support for your child or teen, now is a great time to reach out.

A generous donor recently gifted our office with a collection of dolls, accessories, including a wheelchair, career-themed items, and other pieces that help create opportunities for representation, imagination, and connection during play.

These aren’t just toys—they can help children explore feelings, tell stories, build confidence, and see themselves reflected in the world around them.

We’re incredibly thankful not only for the donation itself, but also for the support and belief in the work we’re doing to serve children and families. Your generosity helps us continue creating a space where kids feel seen, understood, and valued.

I still have moments when I walk into my office and think “I can’t believe this is my job.” Getting to sit on the floor, play, connect, and help kids work through big feelings and experiences. What a gift.

Thank you for helping us make a difference ❤️

Parenting is busy enough without trying to hold everything in your head at once.

If you’ve been feeling like the days blur together, or like you’re reacting more than you’d like—there’s a simple FREE tool on my website that can help you slow things down a bit and reflect.

The Parent Reflection is a short, guided space to help you notice patterns, step back from the chaos of the week, and reconnect with what you actually want to shift (without judgment, guilt, or adding more to your plate).

It’s not about parenting perfectly. It’s about creating a moment to pause, reflect, and reset.

You can grab it for free in my website: https://www.exoduscounselingcenter.com/product-page/parent-reflection

If you try it, I’d love to hear what you notice!

A lot of parents I work with carry an invisible checklist, myself included:

✔️ Finish the laundry
✔️ Clean the kitchen
✔️ Answer the emails
✔️ Catch up on everything you’ve fallen behind on

Then maybe, if there’s time left over, you can rest.

The problem is that the checklist never ends.

Rest isn’t something you earn after you’ve done enough. It’s something your mind and body need in order to keep doing the things that matter.

If you’re feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or stretched thin, consider this your reminder:

You are allowed to take a break before you reach your breaking point.

What’s one small thing you can do today that helps you recharge—even for 10 minutes?

It’s officially live!!

I’m so excited to share that we now have an online store that was created to support families with practical, ready-to-use tools that make daily life a little more manageable.

These resources were built from what I hear most often in real work with kids, teens, and parents: overwhelm, big emotions, busy routines, and the constant effort of trying to “do it right” without enough support.

My hope is that these tools make things feel more doable—not perfect.

You can now explore the shop here: https://www.exoduscounselingcenter.com/category/all-products

If you have ideas for resources you’d love to see or feedback, I’d genuinely love to hear from you. This space is meant to grow with your needs!

One small change I’m making in my office: a snack station!

It’s common for kids—especially teenagers—to tell me they’re hungry during session. And honestly, it makes sense. They’re coming straight from sports, activities, or just simply running around.

When we’re hungry, tired, or missing other basic needs, it’s much harder to focus, regulate emotions, solve problems, or engage in deeper conversations.

Sometimes supporting mental health starts with something as simple as making sure we have access to a snack.

When basic needs are met, kids are far more available for the hard work of growth and healing!

When kids are at home more during the summer, parents often notice more pushback, arguing or “not listening.”

Understanding what’s driving the behavior doesn’t mean we stop holding limits or expectations. It simply helps us respond in a way that addresses the underlying need rather than just the behavior we see on the surface.

As you’re navigating summer schedules, camps, vacations, and extra time at home, consider what might be happening beneath the behavior.

What do you find yourself seeing most often: transition struggles, boredom, or overwhelm?

One of the most encouraging parts of private practice is hearing that someone reached out based on several recommendations they received. Honestly, that never stops feeling meaningful. I don’t take the trust people place in me lightly, and I’m really grateful for the support and the opportunity to do this work.

Thank you for everyone’s belief in the work that happens in the therapy room. I truly appreciate you ❤️

Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about that thing I’ve been working on 👀 just trying to finalize a few details before officially sharing it.

Any guesses what it is?!

Summer mornings lately have looked like: coffee, work emails, completing the work to-do lists, and Frozen playing before 7am so one early-rising child stays quiet long enough not to wake the rest of the house.

Reminding myself that kids don’t need constant entertainment to have a good summer.

Boredom isn’t a problem to solve immediately. Some of the best things come from the slower, ordinary moments: creativity, independence, rest, connection, and learning how to simply exist without constant stimulation.

So if your summer hasn’t looked perfectly organized or productive, you’re in good company.

And as a side note, so excited to be reading Personality and Wholeness in Therapy by Daniel Siegel as a continuation from the training I took with him back in March. Grateful to be able to grow as a therapist while navigating real life right alongside the families I work with.

Happy Wednesday! We got this 💪
