🤍 Recovery after birth takes time.
Even after an uncomplicated birth, healing is still happening physically, emotionally, and mentally. Postpartum is not something you’re meant to “bounce back” from overnight.
One helpful guideline many families have heard of is the 5-5-5 rule:
• 5 days in your bed
• 5 days on the bed
• 5 days around the bed
Another variation can be the 2-2-2 rule:
• 2 weeks in and around your bed
• 2 weeks in and around your home
• 2 weeks in and around your community
This gentle progression encourages slowing down, resting, and allowing your body time to heal in the early postpartum period.
Other postpartum recovery reminders:
• Stay hydrated and nourished
• Accept help when it’s offered and ask for help when you need it
• Prioritize rest whenever possible
• Keep essential items within reach
• Use peri bottles, sitz baths, witch hazel, and other comfort measures as needed
• Limit unnecessary stairs, lifting, and overexertion early on
• Talk openly about your emotions and mental health
• Give yourself grace as you adjust to a completely new season
• Enjoy alllllll the baby snuggles!
Healing is not linear, and every postpartum experience looks different. You deserve support too. 🤍
