Your tests came back normal.
But you still don’t feel normal.
That doesn’t mean the symptoms you’re experiencing aren’t real.
With concussion, the next question isn’t always:
“What other test can we order?”
Sometimes we need to ask:
“What has changed about the way this person is functioning?”
Can you tolerate a full day of work?
Can you read without symptoms increasing?
Can you handle a busy grocery store?
Can you exercise like you used to?
Can you sleep? Focus? Drive? Be present with your family?
A test result gives us information.
So does the patient.
When someone tells us they aren’t functioning the way they did before their injury, we need to listen—and start figuring out why.
Normal testing doesn’t automatically mean normal function.
That distinction matters.
