Busy days don’t have to mean unpredictable routines.

When schedules change, keeping even one familiar routine can help children feel more grounded. It might be a consistent bedtime step, a morning visual schedule, or the same calming activity before transitions.

Small pieces of predictability can make a big difference, especially during busy seasons when daily routines may feel less consistent.

A sunflower at the airport can mean more than you might think.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a discreet way for someone to let airport staff know they have a non-visible disability and may benefit from a little more time, patience, understanding, or assistance.

For families traveling with a child who has autism or another non-visible disability, it can be one more tool to help communicate that additional support may be helpful without having to explain it at every interaction.

Several airports commonly used by families in our area recognize the program, including:

🌻 Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport
🌻 Palm Beach International Airport
🌻 Miami International Airport

The program is also available at other Florida airports, including Southwest Florida International and Orlando International.

One important thing to know: wearing the Sunflower does not automatically provide expedited security, shorter lines, or preferential treatment. Its purpose is to help trained staff recognize that a traveler may need additional understanding or assistance.

Before your trip, check directly with your airport to learn how its Sunflower Program works and how to request or obtain a lanyard.

Save this post for your next family trip, or share it with a family who may find it helpful.

An effective ABA session is not just about completing activities. It is about helping children build skills in ways that feel meaningful, motivating, and connected to everyday life.

That may include a predictable routine with room for flexibility, learning through play and daily experiences, using reinforcement to support engagement, and helping transitions feel more manageable with visual supports and preparation. Progress is also tracked over time so the team can understand what is working and adjust support as needed.

The goal is not only progress during therapy, but helping those skills carry into routines, relationships, and real-life moments beyond the session.

Consistency does not mean every setting has to look exactly the same.

It can simply mean that the adults supporting a child are using similar expectations, language, and strategies across home, school, and therapy. That shared approach can give children more opportunities to practice the same skills in different parts of their day.

When families, educators, and clinicians stay connected, support can feel clearer and more familiar for the child.

Watching the children try something new during our jiu jitsu event was such a highlight for our team.

The kids had the chance to move, listen, follow along, and join in at their own comfort level. It was wonderful to see their curiosity, confidence, and excitement grow throughout the activity.

Events like this give children a fun way to experience something new while being supported by familiar faces at the center. We’re grateful to everyone who helped make the day so enjoyable for our children and families.

For families receiving both ABA and Speech Therapy, having clinicians who can coordinate goals and share relevant observations can make care feel more connected. Here at Mindful Sprouts, that collaboration happens within one team, helping keep the child at the center of the plan.

That coordination can also create more opportunities to practice communication skills during ABA sessions, daily activities, and real-life interactions, and not just during speech therapy itself.

Each clinician still leads within their own specialty, but the overall direction stays connected around the same child.

For families, that can mean more coordinated care, a more connected team, and ABA and Speech Therapy available in one place.

ABA therapy is often talked about in broad terms, but for parents, the most helpful question is usually: What does ABA actually support in everyday life?

At its core, ABA focuses on meaningful skills that help children communicate, participate in routines, build independence, and navigate daily situations with more support and confidence.

Because every child is different, ABA goals are individualized. Progress is tracked, strategies are adjusted, and families are included so support can carry into real-life moments at home, school, and in the community.

Have you noticed the communication boards appearing at playgrounds around Palm Beach County?

These boards use pictures and symbols that children can point to when they want to express a need, make a choice, share how they feel, or join an activity. For children who are non-speaking, still developing language, or more comfortable communicating visually, having that tool available can make play feel more accessible.

Several nearby parks now have communication boards, including Sugar Sand Park Community Center, Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park, Loggers Run Park, Lake Ida West Park, Caloosa Park, and West Boynton Park.

It may seem like a small addition to a playground, but it can help more children communicate, participate, and feel included while they play.

Keep an eye out for one during your next park visit, and take a moment to explore it with your child.

We had such a special time at the center during our relaxing music event.

It was wonderful to see the children explore the instruments, listen to the sounds, and engage in a way that felt comfortable for them. Some were curious right away, while others took their time or simply enjoyed being part of the moment.

We love creating experiences like this that give children space to participate, connect, and enjoy something new in their own way.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this such a meaningful visit for our kids.
