One of the most important decisions you'll make before cataract surgery is choosing the lens that's right for your eyes, your lifestyle, and your visual goals.

Whether your priority is reducing your dependence on glasses, improving distance vision, correcting astigmatism, or finding the flexibility to see at multiple distances, there's no one-size-fits-all solution.

At Aker Kasten Eye Center, we're proud to offer a wide range of advanced premium lens options. Because we're not tied to a single lens manufacturer, we can recommend the lens we believe is the best fit for you, not the one we're obligated to use.

Our goal is simple: to help you achieve the best vision possible after cataract surgery.

After more than 35 years of dedicated service, it's with both gratitude and heavy hearts that we celebrate Sue as she begins her well-earned retirement. 💙

As our OR Supervisor, Sue has been so much more than a nurse. She has been a steady presence, a trusted leader, and a source of comfort for both our team and our patients.

Dr. Alan Aker often says Sue was like a "teddy bear" on surgery days, simply knowing she was there brought a sense of calm and confidence.

That speaks volumes about the compassion, professionalism, and kindness she brought to every single day.

Sue, thank you for the countless lives you've touched, the patients you've cared for, and the incredible legacy you've built at Aker Kasten Eye Center. Your impact will be felt for years to come, and you will be deeply missed.

Please join us in wishing Sue a happy, healthy, and wonderful retirement! 💐

Yes, your eyes can get sunburned.

It's called photokeratitis, a painful condition caused by overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays. Just like your skin, the surface of your eyes can be damaged by the sun, leading to redness, pain, tearing, light sensitivity, and blurry vision.

The good news? It's largely preventable.
🕶️ Wear sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays, and don't forget that water, sand, and pavement can reflect UV light and increase your exposure.

Protecting your eyes today can help reduce the risk of both short-term irritation and long-term UV-related eye damage.

When Anne Hathaway recently shared that she lived with an early-onset cataract for nearly a decade before undergoing surgery around age 40, it surprised a lot of people.

The truth is, while cataracts are most common as we get older, they can develop earlier than many people realize. Genetics, certain medical conditions, previous eye injuries, medications, and other factors can all play a role.

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is that cataracts only affect people in their 70s or 80s. In reality, they can begin much earlier—and because they often develop gradually, many people don't realize how much their vision has changed until after treatment.

If you've noticed blurry vision, increased glare, faded colors, or difficulty driving at night, don't assume it's "just getting older." A comprehensive eye exam can help determine what's causing the change and what your options are.

Your vision shouldn't have to wait.

When most people hear "IPL," they think of skin treatments.

What many don't realize is that IPL is also one of our favorite treatments for dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (blocked oil glands along the eyelids).

Instead of simply masking symptoms with artificial tears, IPL works by reducing inflammation and improving the function of the oil glands that help keep your tears stable. For many patients, that means healthier tears and longer-lasting relief.

As an added bonus, the same treatment can also improve the appearance of sun damage, redness, and fine lines around the eyes.

One treatment. Healthier eyes. Healthier-looking skin. 👁️

Why is laser-assisted cataract surgery our preferred approach for many patients? Because precision matters.

Using advanced femtosecond laser technology, we're able to automate some of the most delicate steps of cataract surgery with computer-guided precision. This allows for a more customized procedure while reducing the amount of manual manipulation inside the eye.

For many patients, that can mean:
✔ Greater precision
✔ Less trauma to the eye
✔ Faster healing
✔ A smoother recovery
✔ The opportunity for excellent visual outcomes

While traditional cataract surgery remains one of the safest and most successful procedures performed today, laser-assisted technology adds another level of accuracy that helps us deliver the highest standard of care.

It's one of the many ways we combine experience with advanced technology to help our patients achieve their best possible vision.

Not all surgery centers are the same.

Our Medicare-certified Ambulatory Surgery Center was built exclusively for eye surgery, which means every detail, from the technology we use to the team caring for you, is designed with one goal in mind: providing the highest level of specialized eye care.
When your entire surgical experience is centered around eyes, it allows for greater precision, advanced technology, and a seamless experience from consultation to recovery.

It's one more way we're committed to helping our patients achieve their best possible vision.

Let that sink in for a second.

The human eye is one of the most remarkable organs in the body, and most of us don't think twice about protecting it.

At Aker Kasten Eye Center, we do. Every single day.
