When a spinal disc becomes damaged or worn, replacement may be an option for some patients.

Cervical and lumbar disc replacement are surgical procedures designed to replace a damaged disc with an artificial disc while preserving motion in the spine. Depending on the location of the affected disc, this approach may be considered for certain patients experiencing ongoing neck or lower back pain and related symptoms.
