A drink might quiet anxiety for a little while—but what happens when the relief wears off?

Alcohol can temporarily slow racing thoughts and ease tension, which can make it tempting to use as a way to cope. But as alcohol leaves the body, anxiety can rebound, sleep can suffer, and the next day may feel even harder.

Over time, that can create a cycle:
Anxiety → Drink for relief → Temporary calm → Increased anxiety → Repeat.

Our latest blog explores the connection between anxiety and alcohol use, the signs that drinking may have become a coping mechanism, and healthier ways to address both.

Traumatic experiences can continue to affect the way we think, feel, and respond long after the event itself has passed.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic approach designed to help individuals process distressing memories and reduce the emotional intensity connected to them.

Through a structured process, EMDR can help people work through difficult experiences, develop healthier responses, and move forward without feeling as controlled by the past.

Healing from trauma takes time, but you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Trauma doesn’t always look the way we expect it to.

It can come from a single overwhelming experience or develop after ongoing situations that leave a lasting emotional impact. For some people, those effects can show up as anxiety, depression, difficulty trusting others, emotional distress, or symptoms of PTSD.

You don’t have to wait until things become unmanageable to seek support. Understanding how past experiences may be affecting you today can be an important step toward healing.

At Archway Behavioral Health, we provide a supportive environment where you can begin working through trauma at your own pace.

Sometimes, a change in perspective can change everything.

When you're struggling with your mental health, it can be difficult to see beyond what you're feeling in the moment. Healing can help you step outside of that view, understand yourself differently, and begin to see possibilities that once felt out of reach.

You may not be able to change everything around you, but with the right support, you can change how you move through it.

A different perspective can be the beginning of a different path.

If you're ready for support, Archway Behavioral Health is here.

Bipolar disorder and substance use can become deeply connected and treating only one may leave an important part of the problem unaddressed.

Someone may turn to alcohol or drugs to cope with depression, racing thoughts, sleeplessness, or intense emotions. But over time, substance use can make mood symptoms worse and create another cycle that's difficult to break.

Our latest blog explores why these conditions often occur together and how dual diagnosis treatment can address both mental health and substance use at the same time.
