Sharing something a little different this Saturday morning! Air quality is always on my mind and I'd be remiss if I didn't share some tips + the major sale happening on my favorite units right now! The dirty pre-filter you're looking at is what accumulated (and what our lungs would be filtering!) in just ONE month's time and we don't have pets, wear shoes in our home or use conventional cleaners. This is just life in Texas!
One of the most important things I tackle with my low-tox home edit clients is air quality. Air quality can be up to 100x more polluted than outdoor air (one study even reflected 500X- ugh).
💨💨💨So what can we do about it? Let’s start with things we can do for free!
🚫Ditch the aerosols, air freshens or plugins
🚫Ditch the conventional candles (especially the B & B Works ones!)
🚫Ditch the conventional cleaning products, especially aerosolized ones.
🚫Remove your shoes before entering your home and ask guests to do the same.
🚭Let any new rugs, curtains or furniture off-gas 2-3 days before incorporating them into your home
✅Open windows on good weather/air quality days, especially if new items (Christmas tree perhaps?) have been brought in.
✅Once those steps are well underway and if budget allows, I 100% recommend adding in an air purifier(s).
We have air purifiers in every room and bought our first one well over a decade ago. I would highly recommend AirDoctor air cleaners. Their ratings, materials and customer service are second to none. Their ability to filter viruses (even covid & flu), mold and other harmful particles is the best on the market.
We have a 1000 in my office, a 2000 in Clara’s room, a 3500 in our room, another 3500 in a hallway and a 5500 for Joy’s classroom. I vacuum the pre-filters monthly-ish which drastically extends the filter life. Whether you put them on your and wishlist, or your’e ready to pull the trigger now- send any questions my way! They usually have 3 "sale on sales" throughout the year and whenever they offer their bundles + free shipping.
Lastly, I would argue improving air quality is important for every home and family but here’s some households I would categorize as higher risk in terms of air quality:
🫁Anyone with allergies, asthma or other respiratory conditions.
🐶Anyone with pets.
〄Anyone in Texas (kidding, not kidding… have you seen our dust?!)
It’s not lost on me that these are an investment but I would be remiss to not share their potential impact on your health and home! Please let me know if I can help you choose a model or make any recommendations.
