How Reflexology Can Help Clients Who Have Plantar Fasciitis. π£
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It happens when the plantar fascia (the band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot from your heel to your toes), becomes irritated, inflamed or has tears.
The common causes for plantar fasciitis include:
π Standing or walking for long periods
π Overuse from running or exercise
π Wearing shoes with poor support
π Tight calf muscles or Achilles tendons
π Flat feet or very high arches
π Carrying extra body weight
Many people who suffer from plantar fasciitis notice the pain is worst with their first few steps in the morning or after sitting for a while.
Why?
Imagine getting a cut on the web between your thumb and index finger.
It hurts!!
As the cut begins to heal, it forms a scab. At that point, imagine quickly stretching your index and thumb apart so the scab opens.
It hurts!!
While moving, there is flexibility in the foot which gives space for the fascia to heal. When someone sleeps for 6-8 hours, things become stiff and when they jump out of bed, like a kangaroo, it can cause the healing to pop open again.
Stretching and slow starts when getting out of bed to get things flexible again are highly recommended.
How can reflexology help?
Many clients find it helps by:
βοΈ Encouraging deep relaxation, which can reduce muscle tension
βοΈ Promoting a sense of overall wellbeing
βοΈ Helping ease stress, which may contribute to muscle tightness
βοΈ Supporting comfort in the feet and lower legs as part of a broader self-care routine
A reflexology session is also a wonderful opportunity to give your hardworking feet some much-needed care and attention.
If you're living with persistent heel pain, it's important to get a proper assessment from a healthcare professional to identify the cause. Reflexology can then be used alongside your treatment plan to support relaxation and your overall wellbeing.
