So, what exactly is In Your Corner?

It’s a free community for college athletes built around sport psychology, connection, and the real experience of being an athlete.

We’ll talk confidence, pressure, motivation, mistakes, identity, burnout, injury, relationships, transitions, and whatever else athletes bring into the room.

You’ll meet athletes outside your own team and school, learn practical mental skills, ask questions, share what you’re experiencing, and help shape future conversations.

Interested in becoming an In Your Corner leader at your university or simply want to join the community?

Fill out the interest form at the link in our bio. And as always, feel free to DM us with any questions! 🤝

Ilona Maher has been open about confidence, body image, and embracing who she is beyond what she does on the field.

It’s an important reminder for athletes: your sport can be a huge part of who you are without being all of who you are.

Building an identity outside of performance can make the wins more enjoyable, the hard days easier to navigate, and your confidence less dependent on the last result.

That’s sport psychology in real life. 🧠

College sport asks a lot of you.

Your performance. Your confidence. Your time. Your energy. Your identity.

We think athletes deserve a space to talk about all of it.

In Your Corner. A new sport psychology-based community for college athletes, created by Boise Mental Performance.

Coming this September.

Power Slap isn’t just about raw force. It’s a battle of nervous system control. Here’s a breakdown of the top 3 mental barriers competitors can face: 👇

1️⃣ Somatic Stress: Physical tension from stress creates rigid, tight movements instead of smooth, explosive speed. That built-up physical arousal directly compromises a striker's precision right when it matters most.

2️⃣ Flinching: The brain has a hardwired evolutionary reflex to pull away from anticipated harm. In Power Slap, giving in to that instinct and moving your head leads directly to fouls or immediate disqualification.

3️⃣ Post-Slap Reset: Taking a direct hit triggers immediate shock, "brain fog," spatial disorientation, and acute vertigo, making it a massive psychological challenge to regain your base and composure for the next exchange.

Mastering the mind means mastering the podium. 👊

We’ve been working on something new behind the scenes… and we’re almost ready to share it. 👏🏼

Something built around athlete connection, community, and creating resources based on what athletes actually want and need.

A space for athletes to have a voice, learn from each other, connect with professionals, and help shape what support can look like.

Coming to BMP this September. 👀

More soon.

We’re leaving these in August, but what are we replacing them with?

Instead of calling yourself “bad” at something you’re still learning → remind yourself that struggling is part of building a skill.

Instead of beating yourself up because you think it’ll make you work harder → give yourself feedback you can actually use. What happened? What can you adjust? What’s next?

Instead of “I always do this” after one mistake → keep the mistake specific. One mistake is one moment, not a pattern and definitely not your identity.

Instead of avoiding challenges because you don’t want to fail → redefine the win. Sometimes success is taking the risk, trying the harder thing, and learning what happens.

A new month is a good time to notice what’s actually helping your performance and what isn’t. Growth isn’t just about what you add. Sometimes it’s about what you stop doing.

Sometimes the best mental performance advice isn’t the advice you want to hear 👀

No fluff. No “just be confident.” No pretending nerves, mistakes, or bad days magically disappear.

Just practical sport psych + the things we wish more athletes knew.

Recovery is part of performance.

Amanda Anisimova’s story is a great reminder that sometimes getting better doesn’t mean pushing harder. Learning when to step back, recharge, and reset can be just as important as the work you put in.

Mental performance isn’t always about doing more. Sometimes it’s about knowing what you need to keep performing at your best.

Fall is officially here, and volleyball season is back on the court! 🏐🔥

If you want to level up your game this season, staying sharp against these 3 common mental barriers is key:

🏐 Targeted Anxiety: When the server targets your seam, lock into your platform early, stay light on your feet, and trust your reads.

🏐 The Sn*******ng Effect: Master the instant reset. Turn the page after a mistake so you’re 100% present for the very next ball.

🏐 Service Hesitation: Own the endline at 24-23. Stick to your exact routine, breathe, and pick your target with complete confidence.

Great seasons are built on mental resilience. Flush the last play, reset your focus, and demand the ball every single rally.
