Consider keeping these in your vehicle for emergencies:
sturdy ice scraper/snow brush
a blanket/blankets
a flashlight with new batteries
non-perishable snacks
cat litter, salt, or sand
a shovel
jumper cables
flares
cell charger
and my dad never let us go below 1/4 tank of gas in the winter (some will say 1/2 tank)
